Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. These small-time career politicians – on both the right and left but especially the left – are the most insufferable human beings on earth. They’re also the most self-aggrandizing people imaginable, believing they’re a modern day Braveheart locked in some epic life-and-death battle to decide the fate of humanity. I’ll never understand the wiring of these people and what addicts them to public sector life like this. I mean, I understand that they’re losers who can’t succeed in the private sector, but still…
