Ex-top aide to Madigan found guilty of perjury and attempted obstruction of justice – Chicago Sun-Times

MAPES_082523_04.JPGA spokesman for Gov. JB Pritzker said the second-term governor “has been clear about the need to root out corruption and instill transparency and honesty at every level of state government. The verdict advances the cause of cleaning up state government and sends a message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in Illinois. This administration demands a high level of integrity in public service and will accept nothing less.”

Let’s hope that he serves his time in a real prison and not some soft country club “prison”.

They cannot be talking about Illinois. Corruption has always been part of Illinois government for generations. Not going away anytime soon. It is a way of life for government people.

The Chicago US attorney almost always gets their man. Except for Blago’s first trial, but they got him anyway. Who have they failed to convict? Doesn’t look good for Madigan or Burke. If US Attorney comes after you, cut a deal as quick as you can because they don’t miss.

Pritzker’s comments are meaningless being this was a Federal prosecution case and not a State case. Pritzker once again is cultivating headlines for his Presidential run latching on to a situation he had nothing to do with.

Nothing to do with it? Ha! I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s up to his neck in this mess. Let him keep digging a hole for himself.

Exactly correct. It’s confounding, the lame and mendacious stuff that Pritzker gets away with shoveling out to what passes for ‘journalists’ in Illinois.

Is there any guilt, an sense of culpability, if your any one of the countless 100s of thousands who never questioned sending off your dues for decades to ‘friends of madigan’, etc or any of these gooles in exchange for getting your pay-to-play deals rubber stamped? Or, your now just switched to ‘friends of welch’, ‘friends of martwick’, etc and nobody cares?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
