Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Lori has decided that her path to victory is simple. When every branch of government purposely neglects responsibility to provide safe environments for citizens, we get lawlessness and vigilantism. Lori and Kimmy don’t have the political will to do what it takes to stop the wildling problem. It requires heavy handed tactics to remove the young block youths from downtown for the protection of mostly white and asian tourists. And that’s never going to happen for many reasons: equity, optics, reparations. So chaos reigns supreme. Anyone who believes Lori can just flip a switch and turn downtown back on again is insane. At one time I might have been more inclined to chalk up events to unintended consequences of good intentions, but it is starting to look like pure, self-centered evil. I suspect funding sources could explain much.
Absolutely agree. There are only 3 possibilities here:
1). The left is correct, and the world will become a better place because of them.
2). They have good intentions, but are really this stupid.
3). They know what will happen, but are arrogant and evil. They will do anything to get absolute control.
Many progressives really are this stupid. But the elites in charge are power mad and evil.
For a large number of them, I also think there’s something psychologically wrong, or at least something very different psychologically. I intend to write about that at some point.
I would love to see an article about that. Somehow progressives have figured out how to override the normal “BS detector” that I believe most kids are born with. They have somehow produced people who won’t question anything no matter how obviously absurd.

Black people and some minorities are much poorer than whites and asians. Conservatives and progressives (nearly all Democrats are progressives now) differ in how to improve the lot of these poorer BIPOC. Conservatives in general want to encourage work, family and the economy, but these only moves the needle so far because there are counteracting forces like broken families, awful teachers unions, gangs and a strong criminal element in largely democratic cities. Yes, I think you are right on. Because the left now focuses on racial issues, and also the massive corporate support for progressives, I think what we see now most resembles National Socialism rather than Soviet style socialism.
I always wondered how a civilized country like Germany could allow that to happen. I think we are seeing the answer to that question now in the coastal elites and suburban liberals who are all in on progressivism. Their hubris is paving the way for evil.
And just like the Germans, they will claim that they didn’t know.
