Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. This is very cool. It kind of reminds me of how Lucy and Desi Arnez (Lucille Ball) decided to go off and form DesiLu Studios giving us countless great old TV shows like Andy Griffith, Dick van Dyke, etc. I only have to wonder why they picked Chicago? Its central location maybe? I wish them success, Columbia college can start cranking out sound engineers and cinematographers to intern there, etc. Such facilities can also double as recording studios for bands to rent out.
The only glaring downside is location. It’s in the graveyard of Chicago.
