First responders across Illinois seeking freedom from unions – Center Square

Paramedics and EMTs at the Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service are seeking to exercise their right to vote Teamsters Local 627 out of power at the workplace, a growing trend around the country. Also in Illinois, Village of Carpentersville part-time firefighters are attempting to decertify the Service Employees International Union affiliate in their workplace.

Teamsters Local 627 brought in $1.4 million in dues last year, but a third of their money goes to pay four executives on staff. Meanwhile, their sole “employee” has the same last name of the union’s president LOL. There is just as much nepotism in union employment as there is in government.

Bet you dollars to donuts they want to join the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois instead. This is more about being treated like the rank-and-file firefighters, all of whom are unionized under AFFI, rather than the janitors and truck drivers that usually fall under SEIU and Teamsters.

When a union’s top priority is its members, that union will go unchallenged. When a union’s top priority is politics and power, that union will eventually be challenged.

Unions exist for the workers; not the other way around.
