Local 4 year State University here offers assorted academic development courses that include basic math, English and science. They also have these classes on the Weekend for those on the athletic teams. Funny how these individuals can party at the 4 year colleges learning not much of anything while partying with Pell Grants, assorted giveaway programs and loans that may or may not be paid back.
Illinois’ education…another Government program down the tubes

There once was a time when students who didn’t qualify for university attended community college to either learn what they didn’t learn in high school or to pursue a certificate or two-year degree. Some financially savvy students earned a two-year degree that transferred to university as a cost-savings move. Young people weren’t given a ‘free pass’ to higher education, they had to be qualified. What’s concerning is how many of these ‘free pass’ students will enter the workforce with deficient skills due to instructors’ reluctance to be called racist/misogynistic/phobic, etc. Education in IL is in deep trouble – high school… Read more »

The Universities better teach the basics as today students in the CPS come out with a 7th grade education level. So much money spent on education and such poor results.
One can only hope that the Universities correct the situation.

“Here in Illinois, our universities are bouncing back—bucking national trends and exemplifying excellence at every turn,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “While other states battle dwindling enrollment numbers, our public universities are seeing extraordinary growth

I know, but it masks some enrollment declines overall. Frankly, I was surprised to see NEIU enrollment drop as they cater to Hispanics, and many of those students would have gotten expanded assistance over the past few years.

A degrees from NEIU is not a guaranty for higher pay in the workforce, but it is a guaranty of a lifetime of debt servitude. Here’s a sampling of their degrees: Anthropology, B.A. Applied Music Pedagogy, M.A. Art History, Minor Art, B.A. Asian Studies, Minor Clinical Mental Health Counseling, M.A. Communication, Media and Theatre, B.A. Community and Teacher Leaders, M.A. Dance, Minor Economics, B.A. (Economics is so awful it gives Astrology respectability) Educational Studies, Minor French Studies, Minor Geography, Minor Gerontology, Minor Latin American Literatures and Cultures, M.A. and on, and on… https://www.neiu.edu/academics/majors-minors-graduate-programs-certificates Tuition: $12,928.50 per year for 30 credit… Read more »

No doubt, NEIU is where you go to be a social worker or low-level job in the field of psychology. It’s the activist-on-a-budget choice behind UIC.

Amazing things happen when you drop SAT requirements and give away free scholarships to students based upon their race/ethnicity/sex/gender identity!

““While other states battle dwindling enrollment numbers, our public universities are seeing extraordinary growth—largely driven by Black and Latino incoming freshmen.”

Because the state has made it clear that White Students Need Not Apply to schools within the IL university system! We’re giving away your spots – for free! – to students who couldn’t be bothered to submit a SAT score!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
