Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. You must understand that a majority of the people in our state are science deniers and erroneously believe that ‘masks keep us safe’. Walk into your local grocery store or wal-mart and nearly everyone is wearing masks in every random suburb. Liberal suburban women have their little children still double masked. His constituency still wants masks because it is their religion. He’s simply giving his constituency what they want. there are a lot of us who HATE masks and refuse to wear them but we are less than 50% so we lose. The diameter of the virus particles is around 0.12microns.
Surgical masks, tested at 60 to 80 percent filtration, and what most ‘fastiduous’ parents seem to choose, filter particles as small as 0.3 microns.
0.3 >> 0.12
Masks are materially ineffective unless we progress to full face sealed respiratiors, and assuming the intention is to stop aerosol propogation.

Masks are about virtue signaling that you are part of the heroic team, the righteous side, you are special and saving the world from the Virus / Carbon / Hate / ( insert liberal feel good cause here). Capitol Fax today uses FACTCHECK dot org to FACT CHECK candidate Rabine’s statement that masks don’t work. Rabine is spreading misiformation. Seriously? Seriously? Factcheck dot org? That’s like going the Washington Post for insider news on the Trump admin, totally fake, made up politicized.. Even the CDC’s studies showed that masks, after controlling for all other factors, lead to something like a 1% reduction in cases over 4 months or something, shows that they are basically worthless, and you have to accept that the science of the data analysis they did is complete accurate and trustworthy, which I do not.… Read more »

Here on the western edge of suburbia, I only see a few wearing masks in the stores. Almost all mid-30’s women with 2 masked children in tow.
I always assume they are teachers.

As much as I hate the mask mandate, it’s a tough sell to get the lard butt gov. and his democrat minions to willfully disregard the CDC mask mandate. It is the CDC for goodness they in the past had some goodwill and respect; but now republicans no longer trust that institution or any institution as it has become politicized. I personally wont be wearing a mask anywhere and my children will be wearing the most loose fiting and comfortable masks possible.
So how many people that come and complain here at wirepoints voted for Pritzker, remember 2022 to vote this piece of shit out of office this individual is the most unqualified person ever to be in office remember or forever hold your peace period. Dillard is no hope either. We need a celebrity figure who calls himself an R and can peel off enough D voters, or discourage them from showing up at the polls, to win the statewide election.
It won’t change anything as the supermajority legislature will simply take over teh gov’s bidding and pass these same laws, only worse, with a veto proof majority.
There is no wining, IL is a state that R’s must tactically retreat from, the national R party told us that long, long ago.

+380,000 kids can go unmasked at Lollapalooza and nobody blinks an eye (are daughter went and says you could waive any xerox piece of paper to get in, nobody cared). But at our schools I’m sure it’s going to be a teachers union–lawsuit /strike/demand hazard pay palooza…so the kiddies better mask up. Its going to be a mess, especially in Chicago (thanks jb!!). From first hand experience, Catholic schools followed and enforced CDC mask guidelines all year, 2020 to 2021.
The public schools were, for the most part either remote or MIA for the school year.
Were the homeschoolers not masking in this current upside down world?

The problem is that too many people – around the world – actually believe coronavirus restrictions trump any freedoms you might have. They’re treating coronavirus like it’s the black death plague of 1348-49 or something. But it’s not. If we lose FL we lose the USA and if we lose the USA we lost the world. My wife’s coworkers are all in the UK and they begged her over zoom all last year to put her laptop up to the window so they could look outside for a minute and see sunshine, hell even clouds. They were locked down tighter than a drum in their windowless little cubical flats in London all year.
