Greg Hinz: Gotion’s $2 billion battery plant is a possible front for Chinese spies, Illinois GOP claims – Crain’s*

Comment: This column is utterly irresponsible, distorted and incomplete. The case against Gotion, its subsidy and its clear ties to the Chinese Communist Party is massive. We will have a full response up by tomorrow. Other, more objective articles about Gotion are collected here

Gotion is promising the world right now, having built a plant in Germany, a country in the middle of deindustrialization, Morocco and now in Illinois. Who knows what other plans they have going on and what other promises they are making. I’m truly doubtful this plant ever gets built especially considering how lackluster EV sales are other than Tesla.

CCP may be a red herring.
The real issue is local zoning laws (public safety and emissions permissions) and water-mining rights.

A quick practical action of self-defense available to local citizens is to find instances whereby local government bodies may have violated OMA (Open Meetings Act). Meetings by public bodies are typically required to be notice-posted and public comment allowed. Meetings may be defined as incuding emails or telephone calls.

Red Herring (pun intended) meant to indicate that if people want to actually do something constructive in self-defense, they should go see the thing that the bad guys are misdirecting away from. That critical component, the thing (remember Al Capone liable for tax evasion rather than murder?) that the Pritzker-esques are fudging their drawers trying to distract from, is the very real CIVIL RIGHTS of citizens in Manteno Illinois whose elected bodies (zoning, environmental, municipal, TIF, etc.) must comply with Illinois Statutory requirements of OMA. May not prevent Pritzker-esques’ sodomy, but may slow them down a while while they are… Read more »

It is a practical, do-able self-defense that works when petty burgermeisters are cozened by those who use them as useful idiots to strip-mine local resources from unwitting villagers.. Very simply, any quorum of any public body which conducted clandestine talks (including phone calls and emails and letters, doesn’t need to be face to face in a darkened room) without proper public notice can have such dead-of-the-afternoon agreements clawed back until proper OMA-compliant notices/public hearings are conducted. Possibly, public officials may be recalled if their violations were egregious. Locals may be able to get to next election time and elect Village… Read more »

Crain’s has devoted almost entire paper to EV articles?, all of which attempt to paint a very rosy picture of Gotion plant in JBs Illinois and avoid issues of why so few EV plants are opening in northern blue union states

There is NOTHING rosey about EV. It’s a Rich Man’s toy and never for the masses. We cannot charge up all these cars now nor in the future as we destroy our coal fired electrical generation plants.

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
