Greg Hinz: Immigrants should be welcomed, not spurned, Chicago – Crain’s*

Hinz: "There is a worsening labor shortage in this town — and not just at hotels and restaurants.... That’s why Johnson, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and even some Republicans — such as Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb — are urging Biden to take a little political risk and issue rules allowing refugees (who are in this country legally) to work while their cases are adjudicated. We’ll see what the White House does. Chicago was built by immigrants — literally. And they could help rebuild it, if the pols get out of the way.

I’m sure the unions don’t want that. And what the unions don’t want the democrats won’t do.

Chicago was built by LEGAL immigrants – people who followed the laws and didn’t sneak into our country.

A completely different class of people.

Hinz , Brandon, jb, etc are callling for expediting work permits for migrants who hinz terms as “refugees”. How is a ” refugee” defined vrs all the other millions of undocumented immigrants in Illinois who have been here forever?

Hinz makes a good point– so long as he is talking about immigrants who are here LEGALLY. Unfortunately, that is not the overwhelming majority of folks he is talking about, especially in the food and hospitality industries. We all want to support good people who followed the rules and are here to work, and we need their labor and their contribution to the city. But how to differentiate between the two groups is the problem. The hard lefty local politicians and the entire Biden administration refuses to recognize a difference between those who are the law abiding good folks and… Read more »

Crain’s Chicago Business Cheers Sanctuary City Shit Show

Immigrants represent another number when it comes to voting apportionment that Crain’s seems to ignore. Yes, in the past, immigrants did build Chicago; however, today many simply join up in the free stuff army causing financial burdens to an already overburdened population of taxpayers. Times have certainly charged and Crain’s, despite many views to the contrary, still beats the drums of the liberal manta that it always seems to do so well.

They keep saying “nation of immigrants” but the children of immigrants become natives, and even at the height of immigration in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, no more than 13% of the country was foreign born. Right now Chicago is 18% immigrant, so we have more immigrants today than any time in history. And moreover, one thing conveniently overlooked by Hinz, is that the immigrants of the past BUILT their communities. The irish literally built the south side, as the italians on the west side, the swedes the north side, the germans too, and so on. With their own… Read more »

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
