Group raises questions over proposed rule to require teachers in Illinois to promote progressive views – Center Square

The rule from the Illinois State Board of Education published in the Illinois Register on Sept. 11 lays out “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards for all Illinois Educators” on page 176. “The culturally responsive teacher and leader will,” among other things, “Assess how their biases and perceptions affect their teaching practice and how they access tools to mitigate their own behavior (racism, sexism, homophobia, unearned privilege, Eurocentrism, etc.).”

Sadly, those who are likely in the middle of the bell curve are dictating the curriculum for the masses. Isn’t there something wrong with that?

Welcome to the logical outgrowth of progressiveness – life in mediocristan… At least till we run out of other people’s money.

“Culturally responsive teaching and leading standards” aka Woke Learning Standards has nothing to do with intelligence.

A group of people has Agenda A.

They can’t promote their agenda because it would be rejected.

So they push Agenda B.

Agenda B gets pushed and promoted until it becomes the norm among the “experts.”

If you don’t go along with Agenda B, you are going against the experts and are a bad person.

This is a con job and it is dangerous.

Think about the scope and scale of the new Illinois “culturally responsive teaching and leading standards.”

Let’s call them the Woke Learning standards.

Every single child.

Every single day.

Every single class.

From preschool through high school.

Public and private schools.

Will be indoctrinated with the Illinois Woke Learning Standards.

According to the RRstar in Rockford the Rockford school district and NIU are planning to give a full ride scholarship to students with a 3.0 grade point or better. It has not been given approval yet but I find it amazing on how generous the school district is with taxpayer money. Soon they will probably offer students free autos-homes and early access to the pension system. After all taxpayers have unlimited money. Check out “People Who Care v. Rockford Board of Education School District 205” to see why our property tax is so high. As far as I know I’m… Read more »

Problem no.1 and the only problem out here in romeoville nobody absolutely nobody goes to the school board meetings and speaks out. That’s the reason they do what they want with taxpayers money, there needs to be a public oversight committee watching over these public thieves. Remember it’s all about the children, well that welcome wagon is worn out wake up people and stand up for yourself. And before I forget do you think all the taxpayers are owed a property tax rebate since the schools have been closed since March!!

Agreed. Very few attend the school board meetings and not much would happen unless the meetings are filled to capacity by taxpayers. Now when it comes to contract negotiations taxpayers/mayors/ senators/representatives/media/even JB/Madigan are not allowed to attend. Only union members, super, school board and are held behind closed doors. I think for transparency the contracts should be scrutinized by taxpayers/media for at least 2 weeks before being ratified but that will never happen. Every contract is larger than the previous one even with declining enrollment. As to a rebate Absolutely! and I think seniors should also not pay the school portion unless… Read more »

Ever take notice the school buses driving around with no children in them just driving around. Another fraudulent waste of taxpayers money, school buses in local Walmart parking lot ,no drivers, all inside shopping on the taxpayers money. This is what enrages me but yet nothing done, all of it is documented just waiting to drop a bomb on them.

There could be many reasons for that. School buses are often stored at central facilities, some of which are privately operated. The school bus is driven empty to their initial pick-up and from their last drop-off. Often the elementary, middle, and high schools are on different bell schedules to reduce the number of school buses, so repeat the above scenario, plus it may make more sense for the bus to be parked in a location other than the central facility between shifts. Also school bus drivers have to be trained on empty school buses, and as in any profession there… Read more »

Valley View CUSD 365U (Bolingbrook HS, Romeoville HS, and its elementary and middle school feeder schools) is the norm. Not a single school district in the entire state (perhaps Chicago?) has an sustainable organized citizens group monitoring a school board. There are a few individual citizens who regularly attend meetings at various school districts. Other than that what happens is a group forms as the result of a hot button issue (referendum, school closure, boundary issue, new curriculum, etc.) then fizzles out after a few years when the issue passes. The reason is simple. It takes an enormous amount of… Read more »

The ISBE “culturally responsive teaching and leading standards” rules apply to: College courses and programs taken by those pursuing a degree in teaching and administration. Licensed teachers, school support personnel, and administrators in the private and public schools. Now is the time for naive parents to get organized and involved in their kids education by fighting to entirely repeal the new whacko rules. Time is of the essence because the schools will need to begin very soon if not now in order to meet the implementation guidelines. You have to read it (the new rules) to believe it. The new… Read more »

The new “culturally responsive teaching and leading standards” apply regardless if the curriculum is delivered online and in person.

The proposed rule changes are on pages 175 – 211 (37 pages) of the Illinois Register, Volume 44, Issue 37, dated September 2020.

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/index/register/volume44/register_volume44_issue_37.pdf

The Illinois Register is published by the Administrative Code Division of the Illinois Secretary of State.

Thus the proposed changes are not going through the legislative process (Illinois General Assembly aka State House and State Senate).

Rather, the proposed changes went through the executive branch of state government (Illinois State Board of Education aka ISBE), which falls under the Governor, and were then published by another executive branch of state government (Secretary of State).

Be sure to read the new rules.

The first 9 pages are the new rules.

The following 28 pages are the cancelled rules.

Included are radical changes in how teachers deliver curriculum.

The new “culturally responsive teaching and leading standards” apply to more than just teachers.

“This Part establishes certain standards that shall apply to the issuance of all Illinois professional educator licenses endorsed in teaching, school support personnel, and administrative fields”

CCSSO, the Washington DC non-profit driving this initiative (as opposed to the US Department of Education), wants to roll out the Diverse and Learner Ready Teacher (DLRT) initiative to all 50 states plus Washington DC and where ever else they deem appropriate. The first ten states in the roll out are Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York. https://ccsso.org/sites/default/files/2019-01/Vision and Guidance for a Diverse and Learner-Ready Teacher Workforce_FINAL_0.pdf The following is from pdf page 12 of 36 in that document. “CCSSO’s Diverse and Learner-Ready Teachers Initiative. Illinois uses the phrase “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards” for its “Diverse and Learner Ready Teacher” (DLRT) initiative.

The Central Planners at the Federal, State, and Local levels regularly create new initiatives.

A few previous iniatives were Race to the Top (RTTP) and Common Core.

The list is seemingly endless.

Over regulation of the education industry.

Most Illinois math teachers stumble when asked a question in Calculus, Geometry and basic Algebra. However they can perk up when their union says their pay will be jilted.
Thats Illinois. Salaries for the teachers and the heck with the students

Disagree.

And jilted has a negative connotation; the cba salary grid never decreases for more years worked or additional college classes that have been successfully completed.

The following is from the ISBE Education Licensure, Diverse and Learner Ready Teachers (DLRT) website. “In 2018, CCSSO partnered with ten states, including Illinois, to engage in work to diversify the state’s teacher pipeline and ensure that all teachers practice culturally responsive teaching.  Illinois’ team is composed of diverse stakeholders representing institutions of higher education, district and school-level leadership, the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Illinois General Assembly.” That website lists many of those involved in creating the proposed rules and regulations. Steering Team members: Fred Crespo, State Representative, 44th District, Illinois House of Representatives. Mary Edly-Allen, State… Read more »

One sure result of this rule, as proposed or as it might finally be enacted, is an increase in administrators to monitor what working teachers and students are doing, and to report it to the State.

Yes for the larger districts, no for the smaller districts.

A more sure result is some (many?) school districts will hire a consultant to deliver Diverse and Learner Ready Teachers (DLRT) training to teachers and administrators.

And colleges and universities will change their PreK-12 education curriculum to ensure teacher and administrator classes and degrees meet DLRT standards.

New Central Planning requirements tend to drive up the cost of public education and college degrees.

Such policy will drive more administrators and teachers out of teaching while the State claims there is a teaching shortage.

Some of those remaining will probably need psychological counseling and therapy.

Education over-regulation.

You and your affiliated garbage social justice extremists at the state and local levels are causing disinvestment in the state, and outbound migration from the state.

Take a trip to your local University and look who is taking the STEM classes and then look at the Academic Development Classes and look at the overall background makeup of the classes. At my local University the STEM classes seem to be heavily populated by foreign students while the Development classes look like the makeup of the local high school here.
What a change for a Country that at one time had the highest rated students. If you get a chance thank a local unionized teacher today.

Mike

The teacher unions are 2 of the 31 CCSSO national collaborators.

The rank and file teachers elect their leadership and delegates to the state and national convention.

However the local unionized teacher is no more responsible for DLRT / “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards” than the local voter is responsible for the same.

This is beyond disgusting. Don’t teach the little nippers anything that might lead them to THINK on their own. They will be taught to OBEY. Is that what parents want? Leftism destroys everything it touches. Their de facto control of “education” is an existential problem to the future of Normal America. Or, am I being too judgmental by using the word NORMAL?

Mike

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
