Some were also initially kept in the dark that if they took a lump sum payout, it would be taxable and could possibly boot them from other government assistance programs, such as SNAP and healthcare.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
