This article proposes that Chicago should have a municipal charter, that “could” restructure government in various ways. For instance, “a full-throated legislative fiscal analyst, to keep spending decisions honest, as does the Congressional Budget Office for the federal government.” Yeah, right. And alder term limits, so any competent alders could be replaced.

OK, something needs to be done. Who’s got some better ideas?

They need an iron fisted director of finance. Today we have imbeciles who couldn’t build a spreadsheet shoveling money out the window for feel good scams. Force people to build a case for funding their projects. Followed by a review with the finance director. Make it painful if you haven’t got the ducks in order. Do your homework or a ride through the wood chipper.

A new city charter would be indistinguishable from the communist manifesto except it would enshrine cultural marxism into the very fibre of the government. Every imaginable progressive value would be inserted into the charter: Commuter taxes on suburbanites Charter guaranteed preferences for BIPOC to the exclusion of white men A city income tax on all households earning over $500,000, which would eventually be lowered to about $100,000 Free municipal water, broadband, and any other utility they can nationalize A tax on unearned privilege defined as whatever they want it to be The list goes on and on.
