30 comments in and nobody is going to call out how poor Griffin’s political instincts are?

Really?

It just goes to show that money isn’t everything in politics, but it is important.

The primaries appear to have been run honestly. But I guarantee you the democrats will rig the next election again, mostly through the use of mail in ballots. No accountability, no chain of custody, that’s the key for the democrats to again stuff the boxes. I have no trust whatsoever in national elections. In 2020 my wife and I received the mail in ballots, but we didn’t even ask for them, go figure. We were confused by this. Already a breakdown in integrity, confusion we didn’t ask for coming in our mailbox. We mailed in the ballots for Trump. Then… Read more »

In every district/precinct/area/etc it should be established how many registered voters there are up to as close to to election day. They have the numbers. Then see how many ballots cast compared to registered voters. Get the numbers before and after and make sure they don’t say we have 2,000 voter applications that were not counted after the election or came in late to make up for more ballots cast than voters. Remember this happened in Madigans district with the young kid who ran for alderman? He got 1,400 or so votes but Madigan’s men went around door to door… Read more »

Bailey needs to speak primarily about pocketbook issues, then the impact of Pritzker’s Covid rules on children and the elderly. Further address crime, and that’s it. Bring up how he will reduce the emergency powers of the governor. Bring up the nursing home deaths caused by Pritzker’s malfeasance. Bring up the gas tax. Bring up JB’s tacit approval of Chicago’s leniency towards violent criminals. Bring up JB ignoring the governor’s duties to run for President. Bring up the Illinois’ economic and Covid numbers vs. the neighboring states. Bailey should not get into the minutiae, keep stressing broad economic themes that… Read more »

Associate out of touch Biden and his policies with JB. Associate the squad with JB. Associate Mike Madigan with JB. Associate any negative democrat or democrat policy with JB. You’ve already seen the democrats do this. Trump is a white supremacist so every republican is a white supremacist.

Excellent point, hang every positive thing on him that he has said about his fellow lefties, including Lightfoot and Foxx, and be relentless about it.
Explain that what Pritzker did to school children during Covid will never happen on his watch.
Point out how Pritzker favored certain businesses to stay open during Covid, yet shut down mom and pop small businesses. Get some small business owners to relate their stories.
Hammer JB for being out of touch, there are countless examples.

Can a Republican pro-life governor, in a state where the Democrats hold super-majorities in both houses, change anything regarding abortion rights? Maybe he can cut funding to PP, but that budget would still have to pass the GA, no? Just curious what a governor can do solely on his own.

Bailey’s “in” with suburban voters has to be school closings/learning loss. Something like:

JB is more concerned about you not having a child than the child you already have.”

(I kinda like that…someone forward it to Bailey’s office)

Great line. And Bailey clearly should move toward the center. However, abortion is a matter of principle to him and I doubt he will budge on that. Do you think that’s a deal killer for him?

What is the center? Masks on even numbered days but not odd days? 5 days of covid quantine instead of 10? Abortions allowed 4.5 months into pregnancy but not after? 1/2 the increase in the gas tax instead of the entire increase? 50% cash bail instead of full cash or no cash bail? And who will be convinced by this center pivot? Who in Dupage County will say, “I was going to vote for JB but I’ve changed my mind because Bailey wants to meet the progressive halfway.” I’ve decided – in the last 18 hours – to go all… Read more »

Here’s the message Bailey should go with but won’t: “While I am pro-life, I do understand my personal beliefs do not reflect the majority in this matter. I do, however, feel our state’s abortion laws are extreme, far more extreme than anywhere else in the civilized world. My promise to you is that when I am governor, I will not outlaw abortion in this state, but my agenda will reflect the majority belief (# of weeks, parental consent). Women will still be able to get the healthcare they need.” Gotta paint JB as an extremist, because that is what JB… Read more »

He’s painting Bailey as an extremist because he’s trying to scare his base so they show up in larger numbers than Bailey supporters. JB is about as exciting as a roof shingle. His voters showed up in record numbers in 2018 because they hated Trump. Now that Trump is gone, and Biden is objectively the worst president in 100 years, JB’s supporters may not have that fire in their belly, or the drive to show up to vote. At least that’s what Bailey needs to win. I do think Bailey can win but he’s got to demoralize JB’s voters into… Read more »

But Trump isn’t gone. I think we can all agree that he’s running in 2024. Most republicans want him to announce in early 2023, but some believe he will announce before the 2022 elections this fall. If he were to annonce sometime later this summer or early fall, that could change to whole dynamic of this years elections, nationally as well as in Illinois.

Republicans needed a candidate that mapped to those who voted no on the Fair Tax: a moderate who could appeal to the Independents and center Democrats. That was the path to victory. Is Bailey now going to shift towards the center for the general election or make a hard right?

Its over.

Welcome to Freddie Pritzker’s second term.

More D’s than R’s now period. Forever.

God truly help us. We need an intervention.

The R’s have all left or are leaving the six county area. The downstaters will suffer. The D’s will reap what they have sowed.

Watching early results, it seems that in a supposed Red Wave year, D turnout for statewide races is blowing away R turnout. If this continues, IL is screwed this fall. The rest of the country will turn red or purple and the stupid IL voters will defiantly turn even more blue.

I’m sure Bailey at the top of the ticket will get out all those suburban wives to help drive the republican vote.

Given the low Republican turn out tonight, it’s becoming clear that after years of demoralization, there just aren’t many Republicans left in the state.

On the flipside, the Democrat party is imploding nationally for all of the reasons frequently discussed here. What remains to be seen is if IL will double down on stupid and definantly remain blue.

After the Rauner years, Republicans probably gave up hope and I can’t blame them. I would also question the intellect of any Republican wanting to govern in Illinois. Wouldn’t it sort of be like being promoted to U-Boat captain in 1945.

The R candidate votes were split up by 5 candidates but totaled 762,189 while the D had only 2 with 797,350 so only a 35,161 margin win by JB.. In my opinion Bailey now needs to address all the tax increases implemented during JB’s term and how it affected ordinary citizens on a day to day basis. License plates/gas tax doubling and the 20 or so other taxes that were raised. The so called balanced budget helped with federal money. The draconian nonstop mandates and lock downs. The Covid deaths especially in nursing homes. CRIME and the total lack of… Read more »

But voter turnout was bad and many of the moderate Dems who didn’t show for the primary will definitely be there come November. Not looking promising.

The election will be all about turnout. As I repeat 100x, Rauner only lost 100,000 votes from 2014 to 2018 (and lost them to the fake Conservative Party candidate). But JB Pritzker gained 7 or 800,000 votes in 2018 compared to Quinn in 2014. Conservatives show up pretty darn consistently. We are engaged. It’s the low information Dem’s that sometimes show up in Nov, and sometimes they don’t show up in Nov. It’s kind of a crap shoot. If the R’s can demoralize D’s from showing up, and tie JB to Biden, repeatedly and over and over again, that might… Read more »

If he wants suburban moms Bailey needs to hit hard on the child abuse that is / was the tyrannical locking out of schools, failed remote learning and masking kids for 6 hours a day which doesnt help and actually reduces their blood oxygen by 5-10%. Anyone who had kids in masks all day no doubt saw the bags under their eyes at the end of the day. We moved to another state because of it (and other aggressions) and know many moms who were bleeding heart libs until they gagged their kids. Bailey needs to hit that issue hard.

I agree. He should hit those and many other issues and keep it civil. Bring up your side and views without denigrating the other. I would advise him to slightly back off the abortion issue since it is a very hot button issue now. Address it down the road but concentrate on the economy and what is hurting us financially. Taxes and reforms should be on the top of the list.

When I lived in Illinois both my wife and I always voted D in the primary. Always wanted the best democrat on the ballot, like Lapinski, better than Newman. General always voted Republican, or independant. Don’t have a stake in the election there anymore, but still hope for the best, but it never is.

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
