From Tony Kenilworth on Cook County’s North Shore, to west suburban Aurora, to Round Lake Unit School District 116, taxing bodies are seeking more funding.

Can’t believe any regular reader of WP is surprised. When are all you stubborn Illinois people going to get a clue as to how high taxes will go and how badly the infrastructure/services will decline? Also, once those fleeing Chicago see your jump in suburban taxes, they will look elsewhere for a new home, causing the suburb homes to suffer loss of value. Get your heads out of your … the sand. Covid gave you a few extra years to get out of Illinois and you squandered them. That house you should have already bought in a red state is… Read more »

WHAT? Why do they need more money? Round Lake CUSD has LOST 12% of its students since 2019, going from an enrollment of 7,080 to only 6,239 students in 2023, a decline of 12%. In what world does losing 12% of your students translate to: WE NEED MORE MONEY FOR FEWER STUDENTS (interestingly enough, 84% of the school is ‘low income’ and 38% are English learners, nearly all of them being Spanish speakers. And the ESL rate has skyrocketed from 28.5% in 2018 to 40% in 2023. There’s your illegal immigrants, folks! What about Aurora 131, also mentioned in the… Read more »

Same here in Evanston – school enrollment is down, but they are stupidly spending $60+ millions on a *new* school. Several neighbors who got their property tax bills here recently had increases of 25+ %…

It’s not just property taxes but home insurance went up a lot. I have Farmers at least till I find another company and my rates are up over 50%. I was in line yesterday returning something and while waiting I spoke to the guy in line and his rates are also up almost 50% (he has Farmers) plus his property tax bill went up. People are furious but what can be done?

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
