Homelessness Advocates Blast City For Closing Cooling Centers, Libraries During Juneteenth Heat Wave – Block Club Chicago

The People’s Response Network sent a letter Wednesday to Mayor Brandon Johnson and other officials blasting the decision: “Happy Juneteenth, a historical event that we can best celebrate by beginning to right the wrongs of the legacy of slavery, which still remain strong in Chicago, including redlining, during this deadly Heatwave, when the city of Chicago has one cooling center open for 2.8 million people on a day that the heat index is 101."
