Homelessness could no longer be a crime under a new plan filed in Springfield – WAND (Decatur)

This Illinois bill could ban state and local governments from creating criminal charges against the basic needs of the unhoused. The plan would add to a previous bill, adding a new term called "life sustaining activities." These would be protected rights of the unhoused to sleep, lie down, eat, drink and hold personal belongings under shelter in public property.

Democrats doing what they do best, destroying everything that they possible can. Let’s turn the state into a giant San Francisco with poop patrols cleaning sidewalks, hazardous waste teams picking up used needles on the streets, open air drug markets, open prostitution, drug addled zombies staggering around in front of school kids. A democratic utopia!

Yes, but what’s going to be the STABLE political definition as to what’s excessive? That seems to be a variable definition depending upon the politics of the time. What’s excessive to some isn’t to others even in a given moment and more so over longer stretches time.

But the bottom line is there are way too many units of government each with their hands in my pocket via the value of my real estate. With other forms of taxation I at least have a choice on where to purchase necessities. I can purchase across the border… Read more »

I agree with your premise; let the state income tax carry more of the burden and set some sensible generally reduced limit as to the amount of property taxes owed. It has to be a more sensible combination of the two unless some other tax sources can play their part, too.

The left calculus is:
No rate is excessive, as long as somebody else pays and public union members (cough, cough, I mean the oppressed) get all the proceeds.

Look how well this sort of thing worked out in SF, LA, Portland, Oakland etc. Tent cities blocking the sidewalks, used syringes lying around and people that have defecated upon themselves everywhere in a stupor. Yay!
