House bill would force gas station owners to display Pritzker propaganda – Illinois Policy

A new measure would require gas stations to post a sign reminding customers the automatic gas tax hike is delayed. Retailers without the sign will be fined $500 per day - but they are pushing back. Said Josh Sharp of the Illinois Fuel and Retail Association, “This industry won’t be forced into offering free election year advertising for the Governor."

There’s actually a reasonably debatable issue here. Well, almost. There’s a body of opinion that says gas tax cuts don’t get passed along to consumers. For example, even the conservative Tax Foundation says that. See https://taxfoundation.org/suspending-gas-tax/. During George Ryan’s administration as guv, they had a gas tax cut and did require these signs as an attempt to force the cut to be passed along to consumers. I disagree, and wrote earlier in favor of cutting those taxes. I do think they get passed along and I don’t think the signs, in any event, would make much difference. Most importantly, however,… Read more »

Add a sticker explaining that thanks to Illinois Democrats, Illinois drivers are paying sales taxes on top of gas taxes — essentially paying taxes on the taxes they are already paying:

I’ve already seen some disclosures on gas pumps when filling up at $4.50 a gallon. Those decals of a defiant Joe Biden saying “I did that!”. I couldn’t agree more.

A few weeks ago, I saw a gas station pump with so much anti-Biden graffiti it was like a low-tech internet forum.

The federal government is considering a suspension of the federal gas tax, but the oil companies couldn’t guarantee consumers would save any money. At this point they should take an emissions break and reverse the boondoggle that the Biden administration has created.

Either the government isn’t capable of understanding supply/demand or they don’t want to understand it. They keep driving-up inflation, implement inflation-based tax increases and claim they save people money.

The idea of imposing gas station owners with $500 per day propaganda fines is ridiculous.

This reminds everyone that the inflation adjustment wasn’t removed, just delayed 6 months.

“As of July 1, 2022, the State of Illinois has suspended the inflation adjustment to the motor fuel tax through December 31, 2022.

Was there a sign posted reminding customers the gas tax was doubling in 2019? Do gas stations post signs every July 1 when the automatic inflation increase kicks in? Why would anyone want their name displayed next to these high gas prices to begin with? What a dumb idea.

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
