Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

How funny are the folks at the Guardian. Their standard is, leftist cant is truth, rightist cant is falsehood. “Last week Illinois sites – including the West Cook News, Grundy Reporter, South Central Reporter and Illinois Valley Times – each ran a story about a thinktank criticizing JB Pritzker, the state’s Democratic governor. The stories were all written by Glenn Minnis – whose byline was also listed in the Hinsdale School News. Exactly the guardian is a garbage left wing news paper whining about a right wing newspaper. The guardians article on this very issue asked me for a donation at the end to support news!
