Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The first event in the Timeline of Chicago Protests reads as follows.
“Here is how some of the events unfolded.
5:46 p.m., Friday
Michigan Avenue: Protesters march down the south lanes.
I’ve covered a lot of protests, but this is a first.
Protesters are marching AGAINST traffic heading south on Michigan Avenue.

Protestors and looters are the same people. It is nearly impossible to determine which is which when they are mixed into a crowd. They all should be treated with lethal force, post haste. Peaceful protestors can go to the lakefront where there are no stores to loot or buildings to burn. It will be like 10 people. The remaining thousands of looters will stay and loot.
The majority of protestors were not looters.
Advocating lethal force of all protestors is absurd and would cause more problems in the long run than it would solve.
I watched the ABC local news briefing at 10:30 a.m., and if my memory is correct the statement made was that they had made 699 looting arrests. Now, that’s impressive, don’t you think? Its far, far more than I had imagined and decidedly contrary to what appeared to be the standy-by, do-nothing posture we were watching for police action on TV in the last couple of days. Also, I thought it either brazen or at least foolheardy that so manly looters didn’t have their faces covered as we were watching them do so on TV.
You think 700 arrests is impressive? When there are tens of thousands of looters? What world do you live in?
I’ll tell you what world I live in–the one where you attack literally every comment I ever make. You have JDS!!
I apologize if it seems like I am unfairly attacking you. I don’t mean it that way, but I will stop responding to you.
Debtsor likes to hyperbolize.
“The majority of protestors were not looters. Advocating lethal force of all protestors is absurd and would cause more problems in the long run than it would solve.” Uh, why would legitimate protestors stay out past curfew and associate with looters? Why would a legitimate protestor willingly head into a crowd of people knowing that it will devolve into mayhem and violence? Because, as I said, the looters and the protestors are the same people. protestors by day, looters by night. Don’t pee on my leg and tell me its raining. If they want to protest, go… Read more »
Triple outrage we Illinoisans have to pay the salary of pritzger, lightfoot, madigan. For what? On top of outrageous property taxes, income taxes, pritzger and dimboob, seem to be letting looters, rioters, terrorists to destroy Downtown Chicago and Cook County Suburban towns. Pritzger and dimboob are allowing the police to be abused, maimed. If you get in the way you will suffer the same consequence. pritzger and dimboob will probably say store raids are the new normal, don’t worry your police will tell you to evacuate the store. NO, do your jobs police, protect citizens, take care of the… Read more »
