The article states that the university received $516M in funding from the NIH in 2024. Wikipedia estimates Northwestern has an endowment of $15.6 Billion, and growing every year. A 4% return on the endowment is $625M annually, covering the $516M, with $110M to spare. Another example of the WSJ not providing the full perspective. Why should the middle class US taxpayer give this very wealthy university any funding when it’s journalism school does not teach down the middle (politically) journalism, but rather teaches pushing far-left, anti-American views? A fake crisis narrative pushed by the WSJ.
This WSJ was “sloppy”, I too noticed they did not mention that endowment… still another reason I dropped my WSJ sub a few months ago, this article could have been in a leftist MSM rag…
