Humboldt Park woman says huge property tax spike may force her out of Chicago – CBS2 (Chicago)

Becky Marshall and her husband moved into their Humboldt Park home in 2013. Last year, they paid a total of $3,664.49. This year, the bill is $7,172.62. In the past 20 years, Marshall's taxes jumped more than 1,000 percent. She said, "I know I'm not alone - which is what is also upsetting. I'm concerned for my neighbors. I'm concerned for the neighborhood. I'm concerned for the city as a whole."

For a point of reference, inflation was up 65% over the last 20 years.

Property taxes are now doubling every 9 years. I calculated I’ll be paying $19,200 to live in my paid off Bowmanville home in 2031!

Where can I get some help?

Maybe you could get a part time job. Try half-acre beer or maybe dispensary 33. Maybe substitute teaching is your late career calling? Might not be able to just live off your SS welfare checks any more.

Take the toilets out. We know that’s a legally, morally acceptable way to give yourself a tax cut

Someone should explain to her that it is her moral duty to pay for comfortable pensions for the teachers who were never obligated to actually teach children. Her moral obligation will increase each year, while the test scores keep going down.

Sorry, Dear. Humboldt Park has a Democrat alderman, Dem senator and Dem State Rep. Is somebody supposed to feel sorry for you? And the entire area voted for Lori and Toni. So who did you, your family members, and all of your neighbors vote for?

In other words, “the chickens have come home to roost.” Some of these old-time sayings are so cool.

They are doing you a favor, buy a tank of gas and start driving. When you get to the state line make a hand gesture and do not look back.

Residents of progressive utopias always expect someone else to pay the bill. Now that Democrat expect HER to pay for our progressive paradise she seems quite upset. I’m sorry, please stay in Chicago, don’t leave, because your Democrat voting patterns will wreck that place too.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
