Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. It is ironic how liberals cite Illinois law in this case, but find ways to manipulate it when it involves illegals or violent crime. Either we follow state law all of the time, or we don’t.
Opponents of these cameras, mostly white liberals it seems, prioritize illegal immigrants over public safety. They also prioritize criminals over public safety, citing police stops of minorities as harmful. To whom is never addressed, more cops are shot at by far than cops shooting people. So much crime in minority neighborhoods, much of it committed by minorities (per crime data) so why they want to shield criminals while professing to protect minorities is a mystery of illogic. Polls have shown poor areas want more police protection, not less. But they smugly assert moral superiority and crime marches on.
