The plan requires school districts to include Latin American history curriculum in social studies classes starting with the 2027-2028 school year. Rep. Eva Dina-Delgado said students could learn about Latino contributions to the economic, cultural, social and political development of the United States and Illinois.
what really needs to be taught are courses in critical thinking and basic logic as very few people on either side of the political spectrum are able to support their positions without invoking logical fallacies.

On Presidents Day, I used to ask public school children whose birthday was being celebrated? They usually would say Obama or Clinton. On December 7 I would ask them who bombed Pearl Harbor? Answers were Germany, Russia even America. Who came first, Washington or Lincoln? Well, that’s a coin flip choice. Those were not obscure trivial historical questions. How will they do with Latin American history? That will need to cover a lot of ground between Cuba, Puerto Rico, Central America, and South America. So, what about Chinese history? How about you first teach American History…and of course Math, Reading, Writing… Then offer this as an elective or Club participation. To force this on every American student is wrong and a reverse form of discrimination.

Why do politicians think that they know what should be taught in schools ? Schools should be independent and able to set their own curriculum.
Theoretically I like your thought here, but the reality of social life in the good old USA is that unless the local community is in widespread agreement as to the curriculum offerings it’s going to generate huge problems where significant numbers of taxpayers oppose what’s being taught or how it’s taught. If neighboring school districts have vastly different offerings it’s going to generate a significant amount of taxpayer revolt claiming that one school district is wasting taxpayer dollars as compared to another neighboring district.
