Illinois bill would require schools to remove Native American images and names – CBS2 (Chicago)

If passed, schools would have until September 1, 2027, to select a new school or athletic team name, logo, or mascot. They would be allowed to continue using their current logos until that time.

What about the Chicago Blackhawks? Will their name be changed? During the War of 1812 Black Hawk fought along with the British against the U.S. to push white settlers away from Sauk territory.

Well then Chicago has to be renamed Daleygrad, because the Chicago name is derived from an Indian language .

Scrubbing the name and images of Native Americans from schools – how sad. These schools are located on land originally inhabited by Native Americans and are a recognition and remembrance of that history. I guess the state will have to change our name, since Illinois is named after the Illiniwek tribe. What ethnic group will need to be eliminated next?

A great name for our state should be,
“ Freedonia”, land of the brave and broke.
El Gordo , El Presidente.
