In Rockford, which had a tax rate of 3.31 percent in 2017, Mayor Tom McNamara has reduced the rate to roughly 1.93 percent. This means as property values have gone up, the tax levy and property tax bills have remained somewhat stagnant. Two simple strategies have empowered Rockford to avoid tax hikes: eliminating unnecessary costs and only spending on what’s important.
Yeah, this is indeed a strange article. If Rockford is so good about “eliminating unnecessary costs and only spending on what’s important,” why are the PTs for its residents in the stratosphere? Also, I’ve said this before: residents don’t care about PT rates; they only care about the magnitude of their bills.
Don’t increase the tax rate, just raise the assessment value and bingo a tax increase. The media fooled again by a politicians magic tricks
Only Sheeple would choose to stay and live in Rockford and pay the sky high Taxistan property taxes!!
I voted with my feet over 20 years ago and my bank account is $250,000 larger!!
This is a pack of lies. Our tax bills have soared again this year. Our crime is through the roof. And the mayor lies about everything.
So you guys are following Cook County’s way. Glad to be of help
