Illinois Has All The Gun Laws Republican Senators Caved To Push States Into, And That Didn’t Stop The Highland Park Killer – The Federalist

"(Lake County State’s Attorney Eric) Rinehart’s anti-gun tirade doesn’t make sense unless you come to terms with the fact that his plea for national gun-grabbing is a solely political talking point, not one that is designed to effect change that would actually stop bloodthirsty villain wannabes in their tracks"

The anti gun crowd runs on emotion but very little intelligence. Their rhetoric just drives more gun sales, which are at record breaking levels the last few years. Is that really what they want? Admittedly the defund the police move has also driven additional gun sales, but when you pound the podium after each mass shooting and vow to take away a constitutional right, people figure they better get one now before they can’t get one at all.

And IL residents purchased more guns than any other state during 2020 and 2021, and seems to be leading again in 2022, by a healthy margin. Not guns per capita but just raw number of guns. This is a direct result of the policies of the government of IL putting the fear of god into it’s citizens. The tooth paste is out of the tube now and it’s never going back in. The lake county state’s attorney is out of his mind if he thinks he can ban the AR-15 given that the gun is now everywhere in IL.

I am from Highland Park and this tragedy hits me deeply. What disturbs me is that the existing laws on the books were not enforced. If there ever was a red flag candidate, this guy was it. Just passing laws doesn’t cut it – there has to be a culture and a will to enforce them. A University of Michigan student who knew the perp well throughout her school years said she was in no way surprised this guy was the shooter. She also cautiously but succinctly stated her friends to her knowledge felt the same way.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
