Illinois homebuyer assistance program is ‘Opening Doors’ — but apparently not to white people – Wirepoints Quickpoint

Gov. JB Pritzker on Thursday announced the reopening of Illinois’ homebuyer assistance program called Opening Doors.

His press release indicates that the program is blatantly and deliberately discriminatory, saying this:

Offered through the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), the Opening Doors or Abriendo Puertas program is designed to aid lower-income people of color who have historically faced steeper barriers in their path toward homeownership with $6,000 in forgivable assistance for down payment and/or closing costs

“Homeownership is a critical asset for growing generational wealth and providing family stability. But with today’s fiscal climate and the rising cost of living, prospective homeowners—especially those from historically disadvantaged communities—are struggling to secure housing,” said Governor JB Pritzker.

“When inequities have historically blocked low-income families and families of color from buying a home, Illinois is stepping up to right those wrongs and pave the way to a better future for communities that have faced these barriers,” said Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton.

How is this not a violation of the federal, state and local anti-discrimination law? Eligibility is restricted by caps on income and home purchase price. Those criteria should be applied regardless of race. Even if the program is being administered fairly, it cannot be promoted in ways that indicate it’s for particular races. That’s illegal and wrong.

The Illinois Democrats’ exclusive focus on race hustle pandering is what is destroying the State

This racist, anti-white policy is a hateful extension of critical race theory. The problems with critical theory are that it assumes that the status quo is inherently broken and needs fixed and that some people groups are inherently oppressing other people groups. Critical theory typically uses immutable characteristics that one can’t control when defining who the oppressor and victim groups are. Critical theory views people as members of groups instead of as individuals. People within the groups are judged based on what others in their group may or may not have done as well as whether their group has been… Read more »

I’m thinking bigger picture is with Illinois now 100% controlled by dem machine and with billionaire governor and his even bigger Pritzker Family Trust offshore billions being used to fund campaigns & projects (Amed 1) Illinois now becomes the ideal proving grounds nationally to launch all these crazy progressive ideas from –reparations home buyer assistance, billionaire tax, wind farms on the lake, ban gas stoves, and on and on. Just like Amendment , all this stuff is dreamt up elsewhere in lib think tanks in DC, Univ depts, etc and then farmed out to political groups nationwide to see if… Read more »

Also, election seasons over and the machine got 100% of what it wanted (Amend 1 & locked down SC), so now instead of doing the hard stuff, like addressing astronomical debt, it’s easier with a mountain of covid $ still remaining to entertain the dumb-hick natives with reparations deal for a few $mil, convert gas stoves to electric, wind mills on lake michigan, etc. It’s “selling trinkets to the Indians” politics at it’s best.

If you want to stop being treated differently, then quit demanding to be treated differently. Programs like this just reenforce the stereotype that people of color are different.

Not only ‘different,’ but incapable. What an insult to POCs!

Just watched the NOVA presentation on George Washington Carver. After a few initial ‘first black’ comments, the color of his skin was ignored and only his accomplishments and affiliations were highlighted.

Refreshing.

Blatant discrimination. The Illinois Republican Party should find a few affected plaintiffs and file a class action lawsuit and drive this effort right into the ground.

Wow, JB approves of another equity program! We know him why would we expect anything any different? If JB wants Democrat DC to elect him he has to think like Democrat DC. That pretty much means throw white people under the segregated bus. We have to remember, JB is shameless he has an agenda and he doesn’t care about anyone not even the people he proclaims to help. Cost and consequences are irrelevant.
It’s all about him and his aspirations.

As you may note, there’s not a peep out of the republican party. A couple of years ago I was listening in on a political discussion at my local SB when one of the more vocal participants (an elderly member of the local women’s republican club) stated “The republican party is as useless as a used condom.” To that, another more vocal person hollered out: “At least the used condom accomplished something!” And folks, that says it all in a nutshell. But I have to add: the democrat party has been taken over by psychos (and hence the name “The… Read more »

We need all these low income housing to be housed in the rich liberal areas in and around Chicago! The city needs to convert all the vacant store fronts all around the city into low income housing. This way maybe the liberals will finally see what they have done to their own neighborhoods! So that all the drive-by shootings can occur in their neighborhoods and they can see what they did to our country!

Maybe if your jb with presidential ambitions whipping up some equity reparations program for a mere $8 mil in covid cash, that you know will be challenged by the right, is all part of the plan?

Illinois independents and conservatives, you have seen the state slowly deteriorate for a number of consecutive years. You have submitted to increasing amounts of liberal insanity. When asked why you remain in Illinois, you often say you do it due to family or employment. Can’t you see that the best thing you can do for your family is set an example and leave? Have you even looked for new employment outside of Illinois? Enough excuses. Just admit you are scared of change. Just admit you are lazy. Just admit you have a job that pays so well that you are… Read more »

“Just admit you have a job that pays so well that you are willing to overlook just about anything” Your statement speaks volumes. All the people that complain about the cost and problems with Illinois won’t leave because even after they factor in the additional taxes and headaches, they don’t believe their life will be better elsewhere. That’s why you you’ll read many people stating that they are waiting for retirement, kids graduating school, family willing to move and THEN they will leave for paradise. The reality is that Illinois has many problems but even with those issues people have… Read more »

“It’s almost like the politicians in Illinois know that voters may complain but really aren’t willing to really do anything about it.” For most, packing up and leaving a state is a drastic move, especially if you have a well-paying job. Illinois leaders, rather than quietly being thankful for that fact, keep poking the bear. I simply don’t understand it. Everyone has a breaking point, even high earners. The long-term economics behind the way Illinois is governing is not sustainable long term, so the objective for the high earner may simply be to get as much as you can out… Read more »

Also it’s not an easy thing to do, especially if your older. Do your research on your new planned area, and not just cursory. Dig deep. I left my beloved Chicago five years ago and initially, it’s overwhelming. Culture shock. But as you gradually learn the lay of your new land, you figure things out and I don’t regret my move one bit. I should have done it sooner.

At this point it’s no longer just about economics, if it ever really was. The advice to just move to a better state is akin to “Just leave Bavaria and move to Saxony. Then everything will be great.”

Many people, unlike you, don’t do the full financial work up of IL vs. TN, FL, and so on. It’s not just property taxes, it’s income taxes, sales tax, gas taxes, utility rates and taxes, home and auto insurance rates and all the little taxes that Chicago and IL impose on things like cable and streaming services. All higher in IL. Add to that the enormous state and local pension liabilities that hang over every IL resident. That piper will be paid.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
