Illinois Democrats have no legitimate interest in dismal public school student academic achievement. Nope, they’d rather go legislate homeschooling out of existence.

This is all about the money. Complying with this, lets the state know how many students are not in their awful school systems and gets them the numbers to calculate how much federal money they are not getting. It is a plan to form rules and regulations to force as many kids into the failing public school system as possible, this is not about what’s best for kids…it’s about the money. It is ALWAYS about the money. This also places requirements on private parochial schools and will likely require additional reporting, course requirements and information provided to the state so… Read more »

So much for the ‘will of the people’…

PDJT to further restrict federal monies for this kind of Leftist Democrat nonsense. Keep doing the teachers union bidding IL and see that hole grow.

Just a way to force children into failing public schools for money. Teachers union shahid schooling as well because parents are successful in educating their children. Plus homeschooling does not indoctrinate kids into far left beliefs.

Meanwhile, 25% of Cook County is considered illiterate, and yet this is the education issue Illinois Democrats find important.

That functional illiteracy is what keeps Illinois Democrats in power. An uneducated illiterate voter will either not participate in politics or vote in elections, or vote how they are directed by their peers or by their tribal identity as “democrat”. Consider the number of so-called democrats who absolutely believe without a doubt that Trump/Musk will “take away” their social security benefits.

“Acts” do not apply to people. They apply to corporations and set groups of “persons” who work for those corporations. Like the Protect Illinois Communities Act, a.k.a. assault weapons ban, there is no consideration for potential Constitutional violations.   (105 ILCS 5/26-7) (from Ch. 122, par. 26-7) Notice to custodian-Notice of non-compliance. “If any person fails to send any child under his custody or control to some lawful school, the truant officer or, in a school district that does not have a truant officer, the regional superintendent of schools or his or her designee shall, as soon as practicable after… Read more »

To be in compliance with the proposed law a homeschool parent would have to let the school district know that their child is being homeschooled, right? That doesn’t seem too onerous to avoid truancy.

Is anything the Illinois legislature passes reasonable?

Not sure this is even about homeschoolers. More likely an attempt to corral the wayward youth back to the mostly empty public schools. Public schooling has become the definition of child abuse.

Homeschoolers in IL have always had the option of notifying their local school district and/or their regional superintendent that they are homeschooling. If a child is pulled out of a public school, the parents will generally let the district know they are doing it so they don’t send truant officers after the child. If they homeschool from preschool or kindergarten age, however, they have no reason to call attention to themselves. The reason most homeschoolers oppose these reporting laws is similar to the reason gun owners hesitate to register their firearms — they don’t want the government knowing where to… Read more »

A Chicago Trib article (from 2022) cited 19% of KINDERGARTENERS have chronic truancy. The same article stated 32,000 kids missed four or more weeks of class in one year for unexplained reasons. So do they threaten CPS parents? Of course not, because funding is tied to student enrollment so whether or not they show up, it doesn’t matter as long as they are registered. It seems likely Illinois is trying to get federal dollars by forcing these families to register under the local school districts. They will stop at nothing to get their hands on federal funding and taxpayer dollars.

Witness slips were thousands against and a few dozen for! How well did the lawfare against Trump work out? You would think Democrats would learn from their mistakes instead of giving the public an issue to organize around and rally against.

So, will this head to the United States Supreme Court eventually because we all know what the Illinois Supreme Court will decide.

“Hundreds Gather at State Capitol” is not true. I was there this morning and can confirm there were thousands of homeschoolers attending in opposition of hb2828.

There were definitely LOTS of people at the Capitol today, and while many of them were homeschoolers ,there was also a large contingent of ABATE members there for an annual lobby day which enhanced the crowds.

Inability to count is another Illinois Democrat trait. Functional illiteracy extends to lack of functional math skills.

This is what totalitarian government really looks like. Not that Illinois political animals could find it with a flashlight and a map.

You are right, the Ill governor and his legislators, are totalitarians. Yet, Pritzger billows from the top of his lungs, President DJT is a dictator.
Hey JB and Illinois legislators, Your Actions Speak Louder than your empty Words, you are the dicktators!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
