Illinois lawmakers propose extending Chicago’s school closings moratorium to 2027The initial bill sought to prevent the district from closing or changing admissions policies at any selective or magnet schools. Now, lawmakers are now also proposing to extend an existing moratorium on any school closures to 2027. State Rep. Margaret Croke said the legislation is meant to delay any big changes until an elected school board is in place.

Milton Friedman , proposed that competition in education is the way to go, good schools will thrive and poor schools will close. And this was 60 years ago.This will only work in a densely populated metro area like Chicago,
