Illinois Lawmakers Take on Plastic: Bills Would Ban Styrofoam, Create Bag Tax and Bottle Deposit – WTTW

The multiple pieces of legislation are necessary to attack the pervasiveness of plastic on a variety of fronts, lawmakers said, and it will require a joint effort from consumers, businesses and government to create structural and cultural change.

I tell you what Springfield you are pushing everyones patience to the brink in Illinois. Tax tax tax tell everyone what they are going to do. If I wanted to live under communist rule I would move to a communist country.

Rep Ann Williams said, “The goal of the fee “is not to make money”. The irony is that I often buy things in Chicago, and quite frankly, the law is barely enforced. I only get asked if I want a bag at the largest of retailers, and even then, it’s spotty enforcement, as everything gets put into a bag, but I don’t get charged the .07 cents. As a further joke, the law permits an exception for ‘reusable’ bag, which is just like a regular bag except 3 layers thick, and everyone still throws them in the garbage anyways.
