Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Are there too many plate readers that citizens couldn’t get of a list where big brother is spying?
The core problem (my opinion) is that practically speaking the burden of proof shifts from the prosecution to the defense. The mechanics of contesting a violation are so costly in time that many will pay the fine rather than contest it. This turns the entire system into an extortion scheme by whichever entities collect the fine. Making things worse are the probable problems of having a car owner’s license to drive and/or operate a vehicle are put into jeopardy so that additional costs will be imposed down-the-“road” in getting these essential privileges restored. It’s like holding your wallet for ransom.… Read more »
By purchasing a car, buying license plates, and using public roadways, you are voluntarily subjecting yourself to the rules of those roadways. Use a Uber, take public transportation, or ride a bike if you don’t want to be tracked. What privacy do you expect when driving a car?
The people have a fundamental and inalienable right to live their lives without any monitoring by government. Unless the government has clear and direct evidence that a crime has been committed the government has no right to impose upon anyone’s fundamental fifth amendment rights. We are all presumed innocent. In your world, why not bend over and let a tyrant like JB Pritzker insert an internet/gps tracker into you. Thereby your wiser, superior elitists of government can know your whereabouts 24/7/365, If they add a microphone device then they can know what you are hearing and saying. If you wrongspeak… Read more »
There are cameras everywhere, public and private. I have four cameras around my house as well as a doorbell camera which picks up every vehicle passing my house. Residents want Shot Spotter cameras. There are unseen drones public and private tracking you and maybe even looking over your fence into your backyard. License plate readers have tracked gang shootings on Chicago expressways. Your car insurance companies have ways of checking your driving habits, speeding, rapid starts, mileage, etc. Turn on your cell phone and cellular towers are tracking you. Give it up, it’s a losing battle. You’re even being tracked… Read more »
You are right about these extensive privacy intrusions and most are illegal but I forsee a future where they are greatly reduced and eliminated.
Alexa is not illegal and it monitors conversations in the home. Cell phones and their GPS system with cell towers are not illegal. The computer chips in your car and their GPS to monitor your speed, etc. are in every new car and are not illegal. Shot Spotter and red light cameras are not illegal. And don’t forget how NSA officials like Clapper denied they were monitoring domestic phone calls until it was proven they lied. They’re all watching!!!
you will not be innocent until PROVEN guilty until you get rid of dem progressive socialist rule
