Illinois mandates mental health screenings of students starting this fall – Center Square

Mark Klaisner, executive director of West 40 in West Cook County, said schools only have a few months to find a screening model and train people to administer the annual screenings. The Illinois State Board of Education is currently working through the challenge of exactly how to get a mental health screening process up and running for Illinois’ 2 million school students.

What about the mental health of politicians?
What about checking to see how many pols are proficient in mathematics/finance considering they are in charge of a $50B budget?
What are their qualifications

I don’t understand the down voter. One of the Senators in Illinois here in Rockford was a news anchor and on the Congress side one was a weatherman. How does that background make them experts in finance? If they were educated in finance they would be working in some large financial institution not reading the news or weather off of a teleprompter.

There must be a lot of underpaid school psychologists who’ll need to be hired at union scale and pay union dues. “Just what the doctor ordered.”

True, there are a lot of urban whackos who are of school age BUT it’s not the job of the schools to fix them. Schools are for teaching those who are there to learn, do their homework, and learn to add, subtract and read. If there’s nobody else to babysit the whackos, hire some hard-ass guards to look after them off site. Teachers and psychologists aren’t trained for this.

Getting a medical diagnosis stamped to your forehead is a life long stigma. I don’t have much time to play with this. HIPPA? Is a CPS ADHD diagnosis considered exculpatory evidence at a sentencing hearing? How much do you think Xanax and Ritalin from the school nurse will sell for?

Who screens the screeners to assure that they are not some liberal nut jobs? Also, agree with the post below that we would like to see the list of screening questions.

They don’t know what they’re doing on this initiative, but rest assured they’ll forge ahead in a half-assed manner. The only thing for sure is there will be more students with mental health issues after these people load them up with self doubt and guilt. The questions on those screenings should be made public. If I know the Dems it will be full of wokism and DEI mantras.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
