Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The permanent victim class wants free pot stores just because they were legally arrested for violating the pot laws. Stop the war on minorities bs. They deserve nothing. They have damaged this city enough.
I’m guessing a good percentage is from new users who stopped at some point because it was illegal. I doubt any of these sales have made a dent in the illegal market.
So you think a bunch of people that haven’t touched the stuff because it was illegal just now started back up because it’s now legal? Those must be the most law abiding pot smokers in the world. All data in every state where legalization occurred shows the exact opposite. Legalization does not equal increased usage. If Illinois wouldn’t have legalized marijuana, we would need to find additional $$$ in tax cuts or new taxes to cover the loss. Illinois Republicans didn’t believe in the personal freedom to choose to use or abstain from marijuana. Democrats let people decide for themselves… Read more »
You are a typical tax and spend democrat. And also a complete idiot with your false dictates about “everywhere”. You are a typical democratic stoner who believes in hand outs not work.
“typical tax and spend democrat” That’s comical. I have had a job since I was 12 years old, paid for my college education and continue to depend on myself for providing for my family and saving for my own retirement. I also believe that government has no right to tell people what substance they put in their own body. See, I actually believe that personal individual freedom outweighs the risk one may incur. A funny thing, this website is filled with rage (rightfully so) about government stepping in and shutting down restaurants because of the risks associated with the spread… Read more »
“So you think a bunch of people that haven’t touched the stuff because it was illegal just now started back up because it’s now legal? Those must be the most law abiding pot smokers in the world. ” I personally know at least half a dozen people who’ve admitted that have visited a dispensary once or twice this year after years of abstaining. I have my suspicions about a few others. What you’re missing about marijuana use is that the reason most have abstained, isn’t becuase it is illegal, but instead, because they hate smoking it. Buying illegal vape carts… Read more »
I know people that haven’t touched it in years that have gone to the dispensary, so legalization does lead to increased usage. I also know people that are still buying from their dealer because it’s cheaper than the dispensary. So I don’t think it leads to new users but legalization does lead to increased usage.
Cannot walk down any city street and not smell pot anymore… Michigan Ave, North Ave, etc… It is everywhere… Pretty sad statement about our culture/society….
Headline should read “Illinois collects $580 million on $58 million worth of cannabis.”
