The latest labor report for June shows Illinois still has the nation’s 5th-worst unemployment rate in the country. A 4.0 percent jobless rate means 258,000 Illinoisans were still unemployed as of June.
Nevada, at 5.4 percent, had the nation’s highest unemployment rate, followed by California, Delaware and Texas, according to the latest release from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
All of Illinois’ neighboring states had rates lower than Illinois’, some significantly lower. Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin all had jobless rates of less than 3 percent.
Illinois’ unemployment rate has been higher than most of the nation for years and the last 12 months are no different. Illinois has been among the worst-six since July 2022.

Crooked corrupt union racketeers have stepped on their own dick — pushing for business hostile laws that repel jobs from Illinois
Here’s a tweet from Gov. JB last Fall: “I promised to put state government back on the side of working families – and we’re doing just that,” How are those employment policies working, JB? Any of those 258,000 unemployed citizens feelin’ good about your leadership? Not likely.
Nice extortion job Brandon! I’ve known this family for over a decade. I wish Ramon and Vic the best. I haven’t talked to them in a while, but it looks like $21K in fines over a sign permit finally pushed them over the edge. I think they had 10-15 people working for them too. Not any more. Now I’ve got another vacant store front in my neighborhood. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/owner-of-bella-notte-italian-restaurant-in-chicago-citing-city-fines-crime-for-closure-and-move-to-suburbs/3191288/ Another of my friends put up $100K a month ago to save his restaurant and keep his employees going. Jimmy Johns at 500 N. Ogden got robbed a few days ago and… Read more »
This may be an insensitive question but, “What are you doing still living in Chicago if you know it’s falling apart around you?”
The whole country is falling apart. It’s not just Chicago that is having problems!! Running away isn’t going to solve anything. Where am I going to go, what are the trade offs, and how much time would I buy? Idaho is land locked. Texas is already flipping, Florida isn’t much better. If we can’t figure out how to stand up to a few bullies, we’re definitely not going to do any better somewhere else with fewer connections and social ties. EVERYONE I TALK TO IS AGAINST JOHNSON AND CITY MANAGEMENT. EVERYONE!! They’ve gotten this far by demoralizing the populace and… Read more »
You’re talking to the wrong ethnic group, ya know
You’re making vague assumptions, ya know.
I appreciate your enthusiasm and applaud your efforts, but in the end, how can we change the rotten to the core Chicago influenced state of Illinois? Lower taxes are certainly not in the foreseeable future, neither is a needed complete overhaul of the judicial and educational systems. Crime reduction and pushing back against the perverse policies becoming more and more acceptable will simply not be enough. When you have a system that openly admits to making gangs a partner in running your largest city, I think that the writing is on the wall.
Why are you here? Why bother asking, much less waste your time putting forth an argument, if you’ve already taken proactive steps to move out of the state? I can’t emphasize enough how ridiculous and contradictory your outward personality appears. You start off asking a question, and then conclude that the writing is on the wall. What’s the benefit or gratification in spending all of your free time telling others to leave Illinois? The only people your behavior benefits is Democrats, the same people you allegedly despise and have taken proactive steps to avoid. LOL
I make great money here. I’m happy to fight for it and the opportunity to make more.
There are more than enough good and motivated people left here to fix it. It’s that simple. You’re fixated on everything negative and parroting vague and demoralizing talking points. The only things impeding our growth are organization skills and communication. I’m going to do my best to address them.
A quick look at the demographics of IL would change your mind. The Republican party is mostly the party of middle class whites, and there aren’t many of us left. Unless you plan on fixing IL through the auspices of the Democrat Party; which in that case, the war has already been lost, because the progressive has done that in the past 8 years, and transformed the Democrat Party from corrupt machine politics into a party of hardcore ideologues.
You’re slipping debtsor! Normally, you shoot down any hope or optimism within an hour.
Dave – the problem with staying is that 25 percent of the budget must go towards the pension gap. That figure will only increase, and it is difficult to pay high taxes in return for no present value. And this gap cannot be fixed merely through better communication. In any long term view, it makes Illinois a place to avoid investing in. Warren Buffett has indicated the same but really it doesn’t take much acumen to arrive at this conclusion. People leave or stay for a variety of reasons and I am not willing to judge. But Illinois and Chicago’s… Read more »
Best of luck fighting a thoroughly, historically corrupt system. Your analysis of my personality aside, I felt that trying to vote the current regime out was the best, and about only, thing that I and the average Illinoisan could do. If you can find one thing, anything, to be positive about re the governance of Illinois, I’m all ears. Not LOLing about anything.
For all those times you criticized posters here about not fighting back, leaving for a better environment, and now that it’s hitting close to home, maybe you’ll have a bit more understanding of why we’ve put Illinois in the rear view mirror.
Your neighborhood is next. I don’t understand why you guys bother telling everyone to leave if you’re no longer here. It’ doesn’t seem like a very productive use of your time.
Of course you don’t. A few more incidents like you described, however, and you’ll understand.
There are minor and major Prophets in the bible, who didn’t foretell the future, but rather, forthtell the future. We here are forthtelling the future, prophesizing what will come to those who stay in IL.
Amen.
…and things are playing out as foretold.
As a business owner/ taxpayer you are nothing more than a transaction fee free ATM for the underserved and unloved, some of whom take the direct approach by sticking a gun in your face instead of waiting for BLM Johnson to rob you. Pipe down and suck it up.
I’m rising up and fighting back! Morale is high! What side are you on? If you were passionate, you’d respect somebody on the the front lines like myself. Your post is exactly the kind of subversive and demoralizing garbage I’m fighting against. To anyone reading this, there’s a whole bunch of folks that lurk in every RINO comment section like Hello, Indiana! guy. The push individualism instead of unity and strength. They do their best to flare up emotions instead of reasoning. You’ll see them steer and suggest every tactic instead of organizing and fighting back, which is reasonable. This… Read more »
Many of us, I suppose, are grateful for the freedom to move away from the rot that Illinois and Chicago find themselves in. Can’t fault us for exerting our freedom, just like we can’t fault you for exerting yours. Good luck dodging bullets while you try to get something done.
The last sentence of my comment was meant to convey the current administration’s attitude towards the taxpayers. And no, I’m not a RINO or even an R as I feel that there are way too many back door deals going on that benefit politicians only on both sides of the aisle, in Illinois and nationwide.
It would also be interesting to see how Illinois compares to other states in labor force participation rate.
Participation rate is 64%slightly better than nation al average – but not close to the high states like CO & the upper Midwest 68-70% https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?m=QzJv
