Illinois nursing home complaints not investigated for more than 3 months amid pandemic that killed thousands of residents – Chicago Tribune

The virus has been blamed for killing more than 4,000 Illinois long-term care residents and workers, at last count. Recent federal data showed that the state’s death rate for nursing home residents, at nearly 48 deaths per 1,000 people, puts Illinois among the worst third of states and territories.Pritzker and top leaders have repeatedly said their swift actions limited the virus’ spread and saved lives. Yet the agency’s efforts have at times been broadly criticized as too timid and uncoordinated. Facilities complained they needed help getting more staff and protective gear as infections swept through hundreds of facilities.

Just curious. How many people in nursing homes die from any cause in a non Covid year vs today? The main reasons for mortality in nursing homes are Alzheimers’s/dementia-Sepsis-Bedsores-UTI’s-Influenza-Pneumonia/Falls in a normal year. It seems like more are now labeled with Covid as a cause of death rather than the items that I mentioned above in order to get more money. Dying from sepsis/bedsores will not get you any more money but labeled Covid is a cash cow. We need to compare year over year the number of deaths in any nursing home to today. The averageage/race/gender of residents would… Read more »

I stopped buying into the “deadly pandemic” hoax in April. Some saw through it earlier. I say Prigster is responsible for thousands of cases of manslaughter via lockdown orders and the ensuing distortions in health care, hospital volumes and acute care capacities, and wrongful deflection of ill (NOT covid which is a fraud) older patients to nursing homes where they were neglected and died. It’s that simple. He screwed the health care market, not to mention every other market, thus we saw spikes in death following the Orders. We can elaborate on suicides and other types of deaths rising from… Read more »

An investigation into the low (relative to COL) and delayed payments to nursing homes by the state might be of interest to the many Illinoisans with a friend or relative dependent on medicaid in a nursing home. Why are the medicaid payments so low? Why is payment to the home delayed so long that operators have to make bank loans and waste money on commercial bank interest that could otherwise have been spent on protective equipment for staff or items relevant to patient care in the homes? What maneuvers must be done in Springfield by operators to get paid sooner… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
