Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The Twitter feed of the author, Ted Cox, is nothing more than confirmation of his full blown TDS; where he lives in alternate progressive twitter universe, where Republicans are Bad, Democrats (progressive ones only) are Good, Rauner and Trump are the Devil, and illegal immigrants are redefined as ‘international migrants’ regardless of their status. He’s retweeting AOC for goodness sakes. This guy isn’t a journalist, he’s a Democratic operative with press credentials. He’s also a goof, please remind me never to visit OneIllinois ever again.
Remember Illinois Working Together? These guys do the same thing: Cherry-pick data and research that ILEPI and CTBA already cherry-picked.
Just what we need, a bunch of dope heads moving into Illinois. Maybe they can all go hang out and blow some weed with our Lieutenant Governor.
Nobody, not even dope heads, are moving to Illinois. It’s already legal recreational in a lot of states, including the entire west coast, and a handful of east coast states. They don’t need to move to Illinois to buy it. As the governor of Illinois will soon find out, when this initial frenzy of legal purchases abates, is that cheap, high quality tax-free illegal weed is already plentiful and easily available. I’ve seen those receipts on social media for legal weed that costs $90 A GRAM with taxes. That’s insane and when this wave of euphoria passes in a few… Read more »
don’t forget the massive amount of cocaine being done by every yuppie in the city, or binge drinking… before I moved I seriously didn’t know not a single person who wasn’t doing coke and/or getting wasted nearly every weekend. People in the city are MISERABLE and using any way possible to escape the tax n spend crime infested dump that the inner city is these days. I read something about London that so many people are doing cocaine the eels in the river are becoming hyperactive lol, probably fake news but its telling that perhaps stuffing yourself in a shoebox… Read more »
1. “It should be pointed out that Illinois’s six-year skid on population loss spanned all four years of former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s term in office …”. How, exactly, would a Democratic governor have lessened or reversed the skid? We all know that the only way to do this is through spending reductions of things like high salaries, pensions, and health care benefits; all of which we now know that a Democratic governor has no interest to implement. 2. “Pritzker is hoping to stem that tide (of population loss) with an overhaul of the state’s funding and taxation system …” Yeah,… Read more »
6 years of Democratic control of the entire legislative branch.
6 years? Don’t you mean 38 of the last 40? With Mike Madigan at the helm during all of it?
