“Illinois’ population losses add up. You need people for investment, entrepreneurship and a tax base…Illinois is losing all of that.” – Ted on WGN Radio 720

Ted was on WGN Radio 720 with Steve Bertrand discussing why Illinois is losing more people than any other state in the country. Illinois used to be a destination state. Now it has shrunk seven years in a row. Illinois needs to change its mentality if it is going to compete.

It’s most unfortunate. I moved out of state in 2017 but I’m close enough I could move back easily. My plan was to wait it out a few years, the state would file bankruptcy, then I could move back once its debts are restructured. Instead the state just borrow from the bond market and sticks future generations with the debt. I’m getting closer and closer to retirement but instead of retiring back to IL Florida sounds more and more promising.

What I don’t understand is why are undocumented seniors lives over 65 more important than the lives of the unborn?

I would like to answer that myself. The undocumented will probably be able to vote.

There is a grassroots trend to bolster Red States into ‘Sanctuary States’ for moderates and conservatives to migrate to and live in freedom according to the Constitution. Specifically, just as Pritzker and Democrats effectively institutionalized late term abortion and infanticide so it didn’t matter what happened to Roe v Wade, the same can be done the other way in our Red States. So no matter what kookie Leftist idea John Roberts or Joe Biden concoct at the Federal level, in our Red States we can say ‘NO”. For those who wish to live in a amoral Leftist ‘Big Government’ utopia… Read more »

Even that is not a sure solution. Look what has happened in states like GA and AZ, and seems close to happening in FL. Liberal policies destroy a state, and people leave. The liberals leave too, but don’t make the connection between their votes and the results. They move elsewhere but bring their bad ideas with them. They turn former red states blue.

By working to turn Red States into Sanctuary Deep Red States through the Republican legislators and Govs, it will be mighty hard to change the states. The Santuary Deep Red States will be a bulwark against those who do not respect the Constitution at the Federal level. In fact these Santuary Deep Red States may even organize as a collective to jointly solve issues.

Losing or LOST it. Illinois LOST it. This was paid out thru massive pensions for decades and decades. All by design. Nothing to see here folks. They just bankrupted your state and now will ask old Aunt Nancy to bail them out. McConnell now out of the way it’s a sure bet and the billionaire who would be King is back in his mansion in Illinois waiting for a bailout to fill all the pot holes and all the gaps in this bucket which is riddled with gaping holes that all the water poured in runs right out of. He’s… Read more »

One untold story is that in the past decade, compassion has been beaten out of hitherto generous people (religious or not).
Volunteer? The Charity Industry (or organized religious industry) profits from volunteers’ efforts.
Community Groups, so called not-for-profits, receive wealth for top officers at the expense of taxpayers.
Citizens who used to be robust contributors to volunteer brigades are now struggling to understand the new ways of government-topheavy charity-for-profit, and are exhausted by donating and volunteering while now being described as privileged, ignorant, inherently bigoted.

It’s so nice to see WGN finally putting Wirepoints on. Ted, you and Mark are the best and I hope the other MSM start doing the same.

If it is possible –know MANY–who will be putting Illinois in the rearview mirror.
Jag Boy is to blame along with Light head and Madigan Durbin and Duckworth and then you have turncoat Kinzinger. He is the Romney wanna be.

It is important to continue to shine a light on this issue. For proof that it is only going to get worse, just look at what JB said about the latest numbers. Of course he blamed his predecessor and took no responsibility for the dismal results. This would suggest he feels no need to change anything, so you can expect more of the same. Between Chicago’s violence problem, Covids impact on the economy and the realization that many people don’t need to physically work at the company that employs them, more people will flee. Lori is an awful mayor that… Read more »

Chicago is at junk bond level and Illinois is at the gate now. Chi-town was bankrupt moral and spiritually for the last century and Lori just pushed her foot down on the neck of a dying corpse.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
