Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
Stopping a virus with a mask is like stopping a mosquito with a chain link fence.
Yes, but isn’t it also true that much of it is attached to moisture one expels while coughing, sneezing and breathing? If so, the virus is attaching to something larger which may well be stopped.
Lol, kinda like non-symptomatic spread. . .bull crap.
No, no that is not true. It comes out every time you breath. Studies show that masks are barely effective at all of many months period. The burden of wearing them will outweigh the benefit.
The masks are no longer about public safety. They’re about control and identifying Republicans.
Then, why, oh why, are so many of the highly educated and highly appointed doctors so avidly in favor of masking and almost literally pleading with the public to continue doing so? I may well be wrong, but from what I read here it seems to me that there are imagined conspiracy theories or self-interest career security reasons why these highly respected doctors would be doing that. But, to think those reasons are behind literally every doctor’s personal motivations seem absolutely delusional to me! How could so many here fall for that kind of nonsense? Does every one of them… Read more »
James, there’s no conspiracy theory. Doctors are just wrong about masks. The science behind mask ineffectiveness is very convincing.
But the industry clings to their mistakes because of politics. Because everything is political these days. Literally everything is political these days. You pick a side and subscribe to the ideology nearly 100%. If you disagree, you’re a heretic or a conspiracy theorist.
It’s sad, really.
Some time ago I read someone’s take on this clap-trap controversy about the wisdom–or lack of it–in wearing masks. The writer in question said its essentially a group of people who had a hard time passing high school biology who are arguing the intricacies of medicine. The medical community seems about as totally aligned in the wisdom of wearing masks while indoors at least as the group of respondents is in not not wearing them. Now, tell me which position seems more reliable to the general public–the citizenry represented here or those who represent medicine in the professional sense? I… Read more »
“That’s not to say masking is perfect, but it helps (IMHO).” In your opinion, that’s the key phrase. Your opinion isn’t science. Because the science just *barely* supports masking indoors. Like 1% fewer cases in masked states, maybe, over the four month period the CDC studied. And the science, from MIT last week, doesn’t support social distancing at all and says that the chance of catching COVID outdoors is negligible. I can see the beginnings of your redpill James, I can feel it in your comments. That’s why you’re here, that’s why you read this site and comment. You know… Read more »
Oh, where do I start? Apparently I’m supposed to believe you and so many others here who are not educated as scientists ant not believe all those who are educated that way and have high public appointments because of it. You guys keep saying masking is a conspiracy, but the number of players in it has to be so vast as to make that illogical. How can so many highly educated doctors with outstanding medical respect be wrong and you arm-chair high-school trained purveyors of it be right? That just makes zero sense on the face of it. Somehow I’m… Read more »

Well, that is interesting for sure, and I appreciate your sending it. But, its still a little confusing. More Covid-19 particles were found outside the masks? That IS surprising and refutes the common sense prediction one might make on it. Are we to assume, then, that the particles coming from other participants were that cause? Apparently so. The author also states that these results are not necessarily defintive and that further research is warranted. I think that’s the crux of it—wait for results elsewhere from similar experiments. Meanwhile the whole virus is on the downslide presumably, and for that reason… Read more »
There are literally dozens of charts that chart the date of implentation of mask mandates and the subsequent rise in cases, and compare them to non-mask mandate states. There is virtually no difference between the two. The case per 100,000 rates were virtually indistinguishable. Twitter pundits would post these charts on a regular basis.
But they’ll never convince the true believers who insist otherwise.
Okay, but then again why would so many noted doctors be all in on masking? You state its politics. That’s hard to believe given the number of mask advocates there and their reputations. Do they have no ethics to boot? Again, you’re asking a lot to expect me and so many others to ignore their separate and collective pleas for citizens to wear masks indoors unless already fully vaccinated especially or even outdoors when the suggested social distancing isn’t likely to be followed? How can dozens of doctors be wrong and “in cahoots” politically by stating something you believe is… Read more »
People get sick just wearing the face diaper. Nothing like the bacetia that you are breathing out and then inhaling again. Lard Boy is not a doctor but he thinks he is playing on on TV.
I think you are letting the perfect be the enemy of the good here. As with most rules there are cases where alternative actions or exceptions need to be made.
Take off the masks! Enough is enough! We are not open until the mask mandates are GONE!
The science is clear. non-medical grade masks are barely effective at all.
Masks today are a form of virtue signaling to show the world how woke you are.
