Illinois school standards proposal pushes ‘progressive values’ over diverse views, critics say – Illinois Policy

Another passage has been criticized for allowing facts to be tossed aside in favor of a person’s own truth. It states educators should “understand and value the notion that multiple lived experiences exist, that there is not one ‘correct’ way of doing or understanding something.”

The left cultural woke push is out of control.

They feel it is their prerogative to push their agenda in schools, sports, entertainment, work, EVERYWHERE.

Just ignore it and submit?

What is the practical effect of the ISBE re-writing the current teaching standards into Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading (CRTL) standards? Round one has four points. Train college students how to be liberal teachers. Train college students how to be liberal administrators (principals, assistant principals, superintendents, deans, etc.). Train college students how to be liberal support professionals (social workers, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, nurses, etc.). In-service training for current teachers, administrators, and support professionals on the new culturally responsive liberal way to do their job. We have a new way. It’s the woke way. Obey or go away. But… Read more »

Here is the Wednesday December 16, 2020 ISBE press release announcing that today the ISBE board passed the proposed CRTL standards. http://www.isbe.net/Lists/News/NewsDisplay.aspx?ID=1349 Now the proposed CRTL standards go to the ILGA JCAR committee for a 45 day review. “If JCAR issues no objection, ISBE will file the rules with the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, at which time they will become effective.” The 12 members of the JCAR committee are: State Senator Bill Cunningham (Democrat – Chicago) State Senator Kimberly Lightford (Democrat – Hillside) State Senator Tony Munoz (Democrat – Chicago) State Senator John Curran (Republican – Lemont)… Read more »

Another point about the upcoming December 16, 2020 ISBE board meeting as it relates to the Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading (CRTL) standards as they pertain to higher education educator preparation programs. The ISBE Directory of Approved Programs (DOAP) lists 58 Illinois Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) that offer approved educator preparation programs. Such programs prepare teachers, administrators, and support personnel for educator licensure. The CRTL standards, if approved by the ISBE board and then JCAR, will result in unfunded mandate demands on those DOAP programs. Below are the Chairs / Deans of the aforementioned DOAP programs. Has anyone obtained… Read more »

Another point about the upcoming ISBE board meeting. The ISBE does not post a board packet prior to their board meetings. A board packet is the agenda with all the attachments, and it allows one to quickly scan and search the document. As it stands one has to take time to create their own board packet or open each document individually, which is a waste of time; not to mention each member of the public has to go through that process whereas the ISBE could easily do it once for the entire public’s benefit. Many counties, school districts, municipalities post… Read more »

Here is a red flag partially highlighted (CAPS) in the IPI article.

“EMBRACE AND ENCOURAGE PROGRESSIVE viewpoints and perspectives that leverage asset thinking toward traditionally marginalized populations.”

Conservative viewpoints?

Nowhere to be found.

Literally the viewpoints of over 1/3 of the Illinois voters are not expressed in these proposed standards.

What does the State think is going to happen when taxpayers at the end of their rope get these liberal standards shoved down their throats at the local level, with no local authority to overturn them?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
