We have come through a painful 18 months. Rauner has held his word and gotten us this far.. if the Republicans sign off on these proposals with these very meager reforms, and very large tax increases, it will destroy what little is left of the party. Income tax increase is permanent and property tax freeze for only 2 years? Art, you are in the overwhelming majority from what I can tell. I’ve heard from or talked to quite a few people about this proposal. Only one supports it.
Mark – The state would pick up Chicago’s responsibility for paying the employer’s portion of teachers’ pensions. This is supposed to address the “Chicago taxpayers pay pensions twice” argument – once via state income taxes for TRS and property taxes for CTPF. Of course, there is no mention that those block grants CPS got all these years from the state that were far in excess of their fair share of ed funding. Apparently everyone has forgotten that little nugget…
Right. And even adjusting for the second payment issue, CPS gets more funding than about 2/3 of other IL schools.
