Illinois state lawmakers boost their own pay – Illinois Policy

Their 5 percent raise, the maximum allowed under Illinois law, means state lawmakers will make up to $128,000 a year. They are considered part-time, putting in fewer than 70 days in Springfield. Only three other states pay their legislators more.

365 days a year or roughly five, 70 day periods. Five times $128,000.00 works out to an annual salary of about $640,000.00 a year. According to ZIP Recruiter the average salary in Illinois was about $55,000.00 in 2025. Nice work if you can get it.
