Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Once this hits national news our population out flow numbers may start to moderate. Just what we need, higher tax paying citizens leaving and replaced with no tax paying illegals taking benefits.
Here’s an idea: Deport all Illegal Immigrants. Budget problem solved.
If lefties want to be pro-immigration, then that it fine. If they want to have a social net for citizens, then so be it but you CANNOT have open borders and a large safety net. It doesn’t work people!!!!
It works just fine as long as the voters vote for it and the taxpayers pay for most of it and neither object to the ever-mounting debt that pays for the rest. The folks on these threads generally don’t like the way things are run in Illinois and Chicago, but most of their friends and neighbors do and they have shown that they are OK with it by voting for more of it in election after election. It comes as no surprise that Ms. Ramirez was part of the same blue wave of spectacularly unqualified candidates that gave us “The Squad.”
The Democrats in this state are just out of control. We are drowning in debt for benefits we can’t get close to affording, so the solution is to just add more benefits to more people.
Illinoisans are going to get what they deserve for their support of this idiocy.
Illinois can not pay bills so why not add more to that?

Medicaid spends most of its money on seniors, especially those in nursing homes. I can’t believe this got passed under the radar. I hope this makes national news soon. IL is going broke but gives illegal immigrants health insurance. This state needs to get red-pilled big time.
