In wake of Massey shooting, Sangamon County target of DOJ Investigation – Capitol News IL

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is under investigation by the U. S. Department of Justice for civil rights violations, but the probe may go beyond the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey. The U.S. Department of Justice’s civil rights probe will investigate the sheriff’s department, but also Sangamon County Central Dispatch and the county itself.

Sigh, always with the race angle with some people. Would the outcome given the woman’s reportedly erratic behavior been different had she been white? That’s a question that is impossible to answer and any speculation regarding it is frankly ridiculous. This apparently was an issue of mental health, not race.

There’s a lot of discussion going on right now about reforming the Dept. of Justice in the new Trump administration, and everyone agrees that at the top of their list is reigning in a rogue civil rights division. Trump wants the civil rights division marginalized, fired, shrunk, defenestrated.
