Audio: Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon says Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades – Chicago’s Morning Answer
Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
“Some may call it an ‘SOB’ — a seal on a bedsheet — and the vexillological (study of flags) community may hate it, but people overwhelmingly prefer our current state flag,” Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said.
Expect no retraction or apology. This what they do.
The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.
Illinois lost another 54,000 tax filers and dependents, net, according to the IRS. Since 2000, fleeing taxpayers have taken $94 billion of annual adjusted gross income with them.
They’re still going to change it anyways. Remember folks, the communist revolution – and reversion to Year 0 – where all the olds are replaced with the new – was never popular. It wasn’t popular in France in 1789, nor in Russia in 1919 or in China in 1956. But they do it anyways because the Revolution must not be stopped by the will of the people.
Can’t believe the second choice, must be lots of Peter Max lovers in Illinois?
The people have spoken. But wait, we now need to convene a time wasting committee that may decide to act against the people’s wishes anyway. Need any more evidence that your elected officials really don’t give two s—ts about you?
And governor WIDE-LOAD will spend billions of taxpayers $$$$ and change the flag.
Don’t look here – look at the pretty flag!
Pritzker fiddles while Illinois burns.
“Senate Bill 1818, sponsored by State Sen. Doris Turner (48th District, Springfield) and State Rep. Kam Buckner (26th District, Chicago), was signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker in 2023, creating the commission to gauge public desire for a new state flag.”
Sen. Turner, Rep. Buckner, and Gov. Putzker should be “fired,” and the Illinois Flag Commission terminated.
