Inflation Overpowers City Minimum Wage Hike – WTTW (Chicago)

Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce CEO Jaime di Paulo said at this point, the local minimum wage hike boosts won’t mean much because businesses have to pay beyond that if they want workers.

It used to be that minimum wage increases also involved raises for those earning at or above the new minimum wage amount, not just increasing wages for those below the higher minimum.   By chasing more dollars after the same production, minimum wage increases contribute to inflation.  It’s all worthless money.  Progressives or democrats like this even though inflationary policies eventually increase the government’s cost of borrowing.  Higher borrowing translates to raising taxes, where the trend is to schedule increases based on the inflation rate.  We’re told politicians believe automatic increases won’t ruffle the feathers of voters.
