Since the first bus arrived from Texas in the fall, nearly 4,000 asylum-seekers have turned up in Chicago from Texas and another 1,400 from elsewhere. The city has set up 11 shelters to house, clothe and feed migrants and provide other services, costing the city an estimated $7 million in December alone, Lightfoot wrote in a letter to lawmakers, requesting $54 million in emergency funding. Reaction to Lightfoot’s request from Democratic leaders in Springfield was mostly tepid.
No mention from the Tribune that NONE of the illegal aliens coming into IL and Chicago have been vaccinated from Covid19, or have received basic immunizations of MMR, Polio, DTap, or Hepatitis. Keep it up Chicago – your obsession with ‘wokeness’ may get innocent citizens put in the hospital, or worse.

It seems to me that any municipality offering sanctuary status should anticipate additional costs from that offer and that those costs should have been budgeted. Are there no sanctions for negligent failure or wilfull disregard by those involved in the municipality budgeting process? Shouldn’t the anticipated costs of measures be considered in enacting such measures?
Wirepoints should FOIA the city budget for all sanctuary-related costs budgeted each year. Better yet, compare FY2022 and 2023 to make sure the city increased their sanctuary budget based on the busloads late 2022 and the anticipated busloads in 2023.
But would that tell us anything meaningful? The actual number of them here is surely far higher than the counted number of asylum seekers, who essentially turned themselves in. The got-aways, as they are called, are in countless numbers. What’s in the sanctuary budget seems arbitrary to me.
Anticipated costs come into play not only with budgets but also with bond issues and perhaps tax levies. If it’s deliberate or negligent aren’t there possible securities fraud issues? Perhaps public officials would lose their immunity. Or be disqualified from holding public office or be disbarred. Judges and legislators may try to protect them but would the SEC or federal courts? Dems are certainly looking to pin violations on Trump. Goose the ganders for a change! And sue some lawyers, underwriters, actuaries and accountants while you’re at it. Somewhere there’s a.plaintiff lawyer interested in a piece of that action. Qui… Read more »
The sanctuary declaration was only for cosmetic purposes. Lightweight and the Democrats never intended it to be actual, implemented policy. Any corporation that made a similar meaningless declaration would be sued for fraud and misleading investors
I disagree. All of Chicago operates around facilitating the illegal immigrant. The city refuses to cooperate with ICE or DHS regarding immigrants. The court system will reduce charges against illegal immigrants so that they don’t have deportable offenses. CPS actively caters to illegal immigrant families. They actively do things to support illegals. However, what Abbott has successfully done is to use their own values against places like Chicago. Just like the progressive quotes the bible to the believer to use it against him, the conservative throws the sanctuary city values back at the progressive. The dropping off of the busloads… Read more »

Thank God Texas is taking the brunt all the illegals. Chicago gets 1,000 illegals for every 200,000 or more Texas absorbs. This administration is a dismal failure at controlling domestic terrorism, and this is terrorism, it has no similarity to the kind of immigrants who love America.

How many unused bedrooms are there in the homes of Illinois democrat politicians? Plenty I imagine so let’s have the sanctuary state crowd let them, illegals, move in.

Chicago and Illinois both claim to be sanctuary cities – so provide sanctuary and quit complaining.
Politicians should have seen this coming – and I’m confident they are prepared, right?
Stupid chickens.

I saw on another article here that one Chicago High School had 34 students. Plenty of room for them there and after that why not ship them to those loyal Democrat voting liberal areas in the north?

The immigrants are lucky that they do not have anything to steal otherwise they would have been robbed and mugged as they got off the buses. Chicago is a hard dangerous place to be in without any means. We should treat them well as they are the future of Chicago.

Wow, Lori actually acted upon my advice.
Now Lori you need to add some intersections. Get some idle CTU members repurposed to “aid and assist” these public charges. Expand the ESL program. It can turn out to be another Democratic Party twofer.
Expanded public sector campaign contributions along with increasing illegals. With the Bidet administration it’ll be the gift that keeps on giving to your progressive agenda.
exactly– now that covids over, declare a new city/ state immigrant emergency…this could be the next big growth industry for are public sec hero’s!! and if Lori/JB can get fed $bucks$ funding all the better…a city/state economy not based on production of goods and services but never ending non-stop emergencies!!! as usual, how it’s paid for nobody cares!!..who would have thunk??
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

I believe the suggestion speaks to the sincerity and proper management of claiming to be a sanctuary.
Just another way to illustrate the City’s hypocrisy.
