ISU trustees approve 5% tuition increase for new students this fall – WGLT (NPR at ISU)

Illinois law freezes tuition rates for undergraduate students for four years upon entering a public college or university. The total cost for undergraduates will be about $30,605 for most ISU students.

ISU has consistently received a 1-3% increase in state funding over the past decade, regardless of the inflation rate. The school is greatly supported by State Farm, and without it could struggle with general operating costs. ISU now sits with tuition higher than Purdue (in state $25,000) and Iowa ($25,000), and both of those schools include room and board in that amount. Illinois doesn’t understand the benefits of keeping talent in the state, and somehow still wonders why so many high schoolers and families flee for affordable tuition and end up leaving the state. 47% goes towards pension costs nothing to do with education. There is no end to pension greed.
