Making the rounds on social media Thursday was a horrifying video of somebody jumped and pummeled by a group of four in the middle of downtown Chicago Thursday afternoon. According to CWB Chicago, several people reported being randomly attacked by the group along Michigan Avenue and near Millennium Park.
The violence is the worst part, but the first to notice the additional importance of the background seems to have been a University of Chicago economics professor, Casey Mulligan.

This is now very frequent and allowed behavior in our society. These cowards roam the streets doing various crimes throughout the day. No penalty. No fear of jail or retribution. Nothing. They operate with impunity. Broad daylight on State Street in Chicago IL 5 brutally beating up another person. There was no hesitation by any of them to punch, kick and stomp that person. None. The city’s politicians definitely notice that a disproportionate amount of crime is committed by one racial group. In fact, they craft city policies to exclusively cater to this particular racial group. Kim Foxx is releasing a policy right now that will dramatically reduce prosecutions from discoveries made during traffic stops because charges from traffic stops disproportionately impact black people.

For decades, they’ve elected mayors and aldermen who either line their own pockets or undermine the city’s ability to provide basic services that attract and retain residents and employers. Yes, but while previous aldermen skimmed off the top, they had a vested interest in keeping the city running smoothly. aka the city that works. The massive urban turnaround beginning in the late 80’s through the mid-2010’s was nothing short of amazing, with gentrification turning blight into sophisticated urban living, while dropping crime to levels unheard of since the early 1960’s. This death spiral started under the second Daley. Yes, he was responsible for the good things that you mentioned but he was bankrupting the city at the same time with his spending and put a band aid on a hemorrhage with his sale of the Skyway and the parking meters. He also was the genius who tore down the housing projects which released the cockroaches to the stable black neighborhoods and decimated them.
