If we give them liquid soap, they drink it. If we give them hand sanitizer, they set it on fire.” But Terry Sturgis, a 25-year-old who’s been in jail since January on gun charges, may be the first to think about alternate uses for the metal bands that hold COVID masks tight to the nose.
We need to start treating social diseases instead of the symptoms. Rap music, video games, and other social influences are having a huge impact on our youth.
We need to focus more on reformation as opposed to retribution. Cook County is notoriously overcrowded, and that creates tremendous stress for security and the inmates. Perhaps Brandon Johnson could find some loose change to make Cook County jail more compassionate.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
