Justice Department joins push against Illinois coronavirus restrictions – NBC News

“However well-intentioned they may be, the executive orders appear to reach far beyond the scope of the 30-day emergency authority granted to the governor under Illinois law,” Steven D. Weinhoeft, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, said in a statement. “Even during times of crisis, executive actions undertaken in the name of public safety must be lawful."

I should have added the whole DOJ statement of interest is worth a read. Although only a layman, I am struggling to see how even Harry Houdini could get out of this one. The statement references prior cases and seems to make a very clear and well written argument.

This is very serious for the Governor. Tilts the equilibrium somewhat as a massive statement of intent from the Feds. I guess this is why we have the checks and balances; three branches of Government (and two have failed in this instance).

From my experience Judiciaries will always prevail in the end, sometimes at an unfortunate cost to Joe Public.

Not that it is for me to advise Governor Pritzker but in these circumstances I would open Illinois ASAP. Custer’s Last Stand comes to mind.

God Bless America.

At this point, I hope he overplays what’s left of his hand and does something so egregiously stupid that nobody can deny action must be taken.

Yes Sir I agree, dumbing down seems to be a common course of action so lets see if your hope comes to fruition. I am fantasizing here but believe we could see a Governor Recall on the ballot come November. Now the Feds are involved would the Legislative Branch in Springfield want to vote down any such recall petition should enough signatures be obtained?

“I am fantasizing here but believe we could see a Governor Recall on the ballot come November.” We live in a little bubble here. Most of the state does not feel as we do. They feel JB is keeping the state safe. Even an uninformed family member of mine told me yesterday that JB seemed like he was doing a good job but he doesn’t follow politics. And this is a guy who leans right but never votes. That’s just one example. On the other end is Oswego Willy who supplicates to The Fat Anointed One. We with our visceral… Read more »

Please read all his Twitter and Facebook pages, look at some key websites and their comments (Edgar County Watchdogs for example). Do some DD. State people are very unhappy, recall Governor Pritzker signs have appeared in my City, which leans Democrat.

A wise man once told me to never fight the Fed. Now they have stepped in, watch Springfield step back (why have they not yet legislated on the Governor’s Emergency Rule for example). It really will become Custer’s Last Stand, then watch all the Governor’s support fall away.

Have a great memorial weekend.

I wish you were right but facebook and twitter comments are never representative of the real world. They’re just representative of the most vocal naysayers and carnival barkers from the cheapseats, using JBELUGA’s own words.

Hope everyone is enjoying living by the whims of the bloviating, odious, partisan hack elected Gov.

It is past the point of civil suits. Indictments are what are now needed. The Reds in the Democratic Party are trying their damnedest to destroy the U.S. economy every way that they can and if not checked in the very near future, they will succeed. Illinois, California, Michigan and other areas of the country dominated by the Democratic Party have literally jailed everyone within their respective boundaries and the courts (federal and local) refuse to intervene.

This is the true crisis of the day.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
